The paper still has a style book.
Right. The Tribune also has editors. We can go on and on and on trying to pretend we know why Meisner spelled the word in a manner that made HD feel the desire to post - "Apparently, the Chicago Tribune can’t afford to hire a reporter who knows how to spell “license” correctly".

I don't care for Meisner, I'm not a fan of his. I choose to ridicule him for some of the things he has written. I choose not to ridicule him for misspelling a word in the manner in which it was originally spelled. Hey, to each their own.
The world may have changed since I was a journalism major early in my college career, but at the time, spelling and grammar were a pretty big deal. They were indicators of competence and credibility. Maybe not anymore.

I find no fault with your caring about the difference between right and wrong.
It was a good catch by you. Wasn't a big deal to me but that's just another example of why you and I are two different people.

I actually agree with you in that whoever tweeted that unintentionally misspelled "license." I also have a degree in journalism, now work in an environment where every word matters, and find the lack of editing displayed daily to be mind boggling.

That said, if the Chicago Tribune has a style book for twitter that they must always follow, it would go hand-in-hand with fish wraps wondering why they are fucking dying.

This takes the discussion in a whole different direction, but it would be a goddamn shame to lose the Tribune. Or the LA Times. Or the Star. Or any of the other local papers. The "national" papers -- NYT, WaPo, WSJ, and USAToday -- have been gobbling up resources and talent, leaving the locals suffering and looking at a pretty bleak future. And yet most of the real reporting, leg work, and decent writing takes place at the locals.

I'm not especially interested in seeing more bailouts for otherwise dying businesses, but A.) we've bailed out worse; and B.) either way, it's a fucking shame.

Definitely agree. If an influx of cash would do the trick, I'm all for it.

I honestly don't even know. I kinda think psych just lumps every poster together and then hurls at 'em.

Psych is trying to make everyone believe that he's in line with a Glenn Beck-fueled conspiracy theory.

There's more to the theory than that, but that's all you really need to know.

Agenda 21 has been around since the 60s but then, I think it was called The Ice Nine Papers.

Cat's Cradle is, by far, my favorite Vonnegut book.

and the way he shoots back with "IT'S A FREE COUNTRY" with all the maturity of a toddler who refuses to go to bed.

and the way he tells the fat chick to put a mask on and he'll give her his card, quite the victory!

and the NASA tshirt, cuz we're dealing with a real rocket scientist here.

and the sunglasses indoors!

and I can't tell what he's got underneath his XXL pack of toilet paper, but I'll assume it's several jumbo packs of dinosaur chicken nuggets?
