Just let Emmett Jones coach next season, the players love him; let's see what he can do.

It would be just like KU to give the job to Monken and then watch Jones go off and be a successful head coach somewhere else.
Ya know who else the players loved in an interim title? Clint Bowen.

Get a proven guy who can coach competitively against and beat some of the best schools in CFB. Monken has done that. Multiple times.
Yeah, I'm not worried at all about Jones being successful elsewhere if you don't go with him. There are a lot of good reasons to think Jones is not a good candidate right now.

And, saying that, I would not be that excited with Monken, but I get it.
I mentioned my order of preference for the 4 names mentioned.

Leipold
Monken
Jones
Fritz

Curious as to yours..

If having to rank those guys, then

Leipold

Monken
Jones

It would never get past that.

We're in agreeance. I do think that if an outside hire is made, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones, Drake and Chevis Jackson stick around. But I think that is a ways down the road. I do also think that a decision will be made one way or the other by end of April.

Jones, Drake, and Jackson need to stick around whoever the new coach is. I also wouldn't be surprised or mind to see Eargle be on a new staff. What are the odds Goff makes a run at his guy and he gets introduced at the spring game May 1? Obviously just speculation but I could see something like that happening.

Kind of what I thought too. New Coach takes in the final part of spring practice/spring game.

If it doesn't happen then, it's probably Jones.

I just don't think Jones has the experience yet. But make him the Assistant HC and OC. Keep him and the players happy.

I totally agree. All told, I like Leipold a bit better than Monken because he has proven to be a winner that can adjust his system to the talent he has on his roster. Hiring Monken would feel a bit more like kicking the rebuilding can down the road a little bit while we wait for him to bring in the players that fit the system he wants to run, even though it wouldn't be the triple option. Leipold would be my top pick. Monken does have leadership and discipline qualities that have obviously been holding this team back, but Leipold seems the be the better schemer.

I think if a coach wants to come in and have his own coordinators, you need to respect that.
I'd agree in trying to find a spot for Jones but the head coach shouldn't be forced to peg Jones at OC -- unless he's good with that.

I agree, Jones doesn't need to be OC. If he's good with being Associate HC/WR coach/Recruiting coordinator or whatever combination of those titles he wants, that's fine. But promoting him to OC wouldn't be necessary.

New name, D coordinator at UGA. From the Northland--sounds like he would be a mizzou fan.

We're also within a few months in age. Just 35.

Finalist for Assistant Coach of the Year. Not bad. If a current HC doesn't want to leave, you go and get someone like this guy.

Has a big influence on Kansas JUCO recruiting too. So that wouldn't be a bad connection to be a known guy in the country's best JUCO league.

Teams against Georgia in his 2 years there rush for an average of like 75 yards per game. That'll play.

Wait a minute. He's the Fain and Billy Slaughter Defensive Coordinator? Like, the defensive coordinator position on the coaching staff is sponsored by donor money? Gross.

Hiring the defensive coordinator from UGA sounds good, but the title is pretty misleading. He has even less experience than Jones.

But, I have him above Fritz. And certainly above Ryan Held, which was also rumored.

Lots of programs do that now. Even smaller P5 schools like Northwestern do.

Jones
Lanning

Man, I guess my problem with that is, there's plenty of money for stuff like that but the NCAA believes giving the players a chunk of the billions of dollars they make off their backs is a bad thing.

Or say this guy leaves and Georgia needs to hire a new DC. Since they essentially fund the position, do Fain and Billy Slaughter get a say? Do they get to be involved in the hiring process?
