My favorite Sosa story......
Other than for the 2015 Playoffs, 1998 may have been the last time I sat in the Bleachers at Wrigley.
Sosa was making about 8 or 9 million in 98 which had to have put him in the top 10 in the league in salary.
It was early in the season. I was in right field. There was a fly ball hit towards Sammy and he got a terrible jump on it. Ball landed and hit up against the wall. Sammy didn't run but jogged towards it.
Batter turned what should have been a fly out in to a triple because Sammy mad a lousy relay throw too.
I wasn't happy. Sammy was probably about 40-50 feet away from me and I yelled something to the extent of maybe you're not getting paid enough to give a damn/try/play hard. I don't know if he heard me but my guess is he did. Obviously it was sarcasm and a jag off move by me. I then threw a few crumpled up dollar bills on the field. Sammy actually reached down and put them in his back pocket. I and a few of those with me and around me got a good laugh out of it.
Later in the game he proceeded to hit one of what would end up being 66 HR he hit for the season.
I like to to take credit for his accomplishment. He also hit 63 in 1999 and 64 in 2001.
These were two of his finer moments. First game back after 9/11/01

I still like Sammy, even sober.

When was the last time a team went with an all lefty hitting lineup?

Cubs and White Sox have both had pitchers throw no hitters this season.
Cubs and White Sox are both in first place on September 13th.
White Sox have the best record in the AL on September 13th.
I would have given someone 35-1 odds on $100 on/against all those things happening.
I'd be out $3500.
It's a good day to be a Chicago baseball fan. Football fan too.

Royals have only 12 games left in the regular season.

26-34 would be pretty good all things considered.

If the Royals could win their next 2 I dub their season a success.

Are you going to dub their season as a failure? You probably should.
I don't really care what they were predicted/projected to do, when they are 22-33 that should never be considered a success. Better than expected? Sure, that's fine. A "success"? No.

It's a failure now.
Needed to sweep the Cards so they might have missed the playoffs.

Gotcha! Yes, when you beat/sweep your superior "rival" and possibly knock them out of the playoffs it could be (and should be?) deemed at least a successful endeavor.

I'm shocked that they ended up getting all but 2 games in this year. Cardinals played like 5 games when Royals played like 19. Cards/Tigers only ones that didn't play 60, and they both played 58.

Because we missed college basketball, sports gods gave us this.
History/records be damned, Give me 81-game seasons (more off days, April to early Sept), and 16 team play offs.

I’m debating if I should pay $400 all I can eat and drink to be on a rooftop at Wrigley for today’s game. I’m 20/80 right now. If it was $200 I would probably be 80/20. I DON’T have fond memories of Cubs/Marlins playoffs at Wrigley.
I think the Marlins win this series too.
