5 questions for the Totally Random Thread to be answered whenever.
1. Is there a good reason why so many people feel the need to be disrespectful in restaurants?
2. Who do some people prefer cloudy/rainy days over sunny days?
3. The mayhem guy character from the Allstate commercials needs to die. What other commercial character needs to die?
4. Why do many female "sideline" sports reporters feel the need to shake their heads so much when the person they are interviewing is speaking?
5. If the National Anthem was never played at a sporting event again would you be happy, sad, mad, or not give a shit one way or the other?

1. Because they see such attitude portrayed as something desirable/rewarded in movies.
2. Don’t know that’s a thing, unless you’re referring to the folks living in tropical areas
3. Don’t much care for Flo or the Emu
4. Don’t know
5. Happy. It’s fake patriotism. Most people are doing other things anyway, which is extremely disrespectful. Also would be happy if they got rid of other jingoism like flybys and other pointless exercise, while we’re at it

1) A pox on them. A really itchy one.
2) My daughter does.
3) That spectrum guy who yell FFFRRREEEEEE.
4) I rarely pay attention to them, probably to signal that they are listening.
5) Yes

1. Classism
2. no sunburn. the grunge metal hits different. Plus the fishing is usually better
3. as many as it takes for lower insurance rates
4. break up with her
5. actually, I was thinking about this the other day. A dood in high school got arrested/suspended over some controversy stemming from him refusing to stand and put his hand over his heart for the pledge of allegiance. I don't remember the details, but pretty sure he did something stoopid and absolutely deserved to be arrested/suspended. it wasn't simply that he refused, it was something about how he reacted. but it's, like, your constitutional right to NOT do that shit, and can't be compelled to do it, right?

classism....fuckballs.
no. people can, and do, just fucking suck without some underlying socioeconomic moral dilemma. There are plenty of people on the low end of the "class' scale that are fucking horrible at restaurants.

1. No
2. I don't know
3. Chris Paul
4. They are simulating giving a blow job? Ok, that was uncalled for and disrespectful. My answer is - I don't know.
5. Not give a shit one way or the other. People want to do whatever it is they want to do - fine with me but do NOT force me to do something I choose not to do. That being said, I typically remove my hat, on rare occasion put my hand over my heart, every about 1 in 20 times - sing at least some of the lyrics.
P.S. On a semi related note, this should get me bashed by some people.....
As a child I was told to "pledge my allegiance" to the USA. I rolled my eyes as I typed that. Today, I do not "pledge my allegiance" to what the USA was when it was first founded nor do I pledge my allegiance to what it currently is. If that makes me a bad American, so be it - and go ahead and sue me.

1) Because people who were previously mostly closeted assholes see assholes like Trump and Musk punching down, so feel like they have permission to also. A worse than itchy pox on them.
2) In sporadic doses, I like cloudy days, too.
3) Totally agree with Flo, Emu, and Mayhem.
4) 99 is right: What does it mean when interviewers nod their head?
Experts agree that several signs indicate the interview is going well. In these cases, the interviewer will: Nod or tilt her head forward, indicating agreement, interest or at least that she's paying attention.
5) I'd be fine if they'd stop playing it completely at sporting events, because hearing it so often renders it meaningless, which is sad. Maybe play it on opening day if the nativists can't do without it.

1. I do not frequent restaurants very often. I guess that is a good thing
2. I do not know about PREFER, but you have to have some clouds and rain to appreciate the sunshine
3. I like Meyhem. He is funny. JAKE from State Farm makes me want to quit sports to escape him! Dr. Rick who has correctly diagnosed that I am a homeowner turning into my parent deserves his own show.
4. Their necks hurt from looking up at the tall athlete? Honestly, I never noticed. I was probably looking at the athlete speaking.
5. I would be completely fine with it. To me, it is 99.5% an opportunity for some high school glee group or up and coming local country talent to sing in front of a crowd and 0.5% patriotism. Fun fact for you: the NHL's Buffalo Sabres play both US and Canadian anthems before every home game, regardless of the opponent, in recognition of the team's significant Canadian fanbase.

2. Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.
3. Commercials?
4. I dunno.
5. meh

i may be wrong. but i suspect all nhl teams play both national anthems before every game. i know the red wings do.
my 3 year old grandbaby was singing the national anthem this past saturday. the daycare she goes to has the children sing the national anthem and say the pledge of allegiance every single morning. god bless them for that.

I guess what bugs me about having to stand and hat off and hand on heart for the national anthem is, pretty much everyone compels you to do so, and shames you if you don't; even though declining to do so is very explicitly a part of the freedom represented by the national anthem. It's the compel-and-shame crowd that's actually being a bunch of fascists about it.
Besides, our national anthem kinda sucks. Can we update it?
Maybe even let Phish take a stab at it?
Hear me out!
just imagine at like, the beginning of the olympics, we're like 20 minutes into our national anthem, other countries are starting to get bored with it, and we can turn and shame them like, "don't be respectful bro, now keep on standing, we haven't even gotten to the guitar solo yet..."

1. No. My sister won't be mean because she was a waitress years ago because being a ballerina don't pay the rent. Now she just makes a pain in the ass of herself to show everyone at the table how sophisticated she is now that she lives almost in New York. " I would like the salmon dish but can you substitute summer halibut for the protein and can you take the arugula out of the side salad and substitute baby red lettuce; oh is the salmon wild caught or farmed?"
2. The sunshines every day in the Empire, some clouds now and then are nice.
3. Putin
4. Who cares, what I want to know is why does Tucker squint his eyes, tilt his melon and go slackjawed when an interviewee talks. And the god damn muthafuckin slouchy chairs; bitch what's that all about?
5. fuck that lame old piece of "patriotic" tripe, every sporting event in the US should be preceded by the greatest rock roll song ever written....a true expression of the Blessed American Way of Life!
