I'm going to the grocery store tonight.
Apparently the stores have been hit hard where there isn't any rice or beans or toilet paper.
I just hope they have condoms or similar.
Excuse me, do you guys have any more
pulling out in stock?

I went to the State Dept website, their page on the novel coronavirus had a map of China. No other countries even mentioned except Hong Kong.

Trump Doesn't Care if You Catch Coronavirus
https://gen.medium.com/trump-doesnt-car ... a0660a06d2
Coronavirus has washed ashore here in America and potentially 40 to 70 percent of us could get it in some form. This is because the virus has a strong ground game, and also because Trump gutted the country’s pandemic response team, leaving us without what amounts to a bureaucratic immune system. We can’t stop the coronavirus because there’s no one in charge who can stop it, or even wants to. Instead, the president and his fuckhead cohorts have used the outbreak as yet another occasion to openly wonder if everyone is being nice enough to them.

But, you see, what you're describing is...
...fuck it, nevermind. Throw this one in with taxpayer-funded subsidies to farmers hurt by tariffs and immigration policies.

Sorry if this is somewhat political, but seriously........isn't this really "Medicare (Medicaid) for the uninsured", the first step in "Medicare for All"? Weren't these the same guys who said that the gubmint shouldn't be in the healthcare business and tried to take away insurance for the masses? Why is this not "SOCIALISM!!"? (apologies to jfish!)

Because there is a potential national health crisis? Things are a bit different than normal operation. Hence emergency funds and not normal operating costs.
If they didnt do this you would complain that they werent doing enough right? Is there a way to win?

Yep.
And related care costs as well.

Maybe? Obamacare expanded Medicaid enough that I have a hard time being sympathetic to the uninsured.

If there was national healthcare, would this even be a problem?

in a general sense i might be inclined to agree with you
these seem like extraordinary circumstances
(not to mention potential culpability by federal parties that might have prevented, or at least reduced the impact of, the current situation)

The point is that this is a potential "health care emergency," which is precisely what a federal government should be ready, willing, and able to handle. The dood who got a bill from the hospital for 3000 bucks HAD insurance. I can tell you right now, despite the fact that we have insurance (and pretty good insurance), if I had to take the whole famn damily in to have them tested and got a bill for our entire annual out-of-pocket max, I'd be pretty pissed. And people in similar circumstances who heard my story would be unlikely to do the same, which would exacerbate both the community health risk and the potential for severe (and costly) complications.

Good points DC/trad.
I don't get the not-covered-by-insurance thing. There are minimum standard requirements, again from Obamacare. How could this not be covered?
