They probably won't touch a basketball today or tomorrow. All about letting the guys rest up. Will get a hard practice in on Thursday and a lighter one on Friday before Kentucky.
It's that stuff that causes me to watch the game with the sound on mute. When I watched a replay of that later with the sound, on and heard that comment I thought the same thing.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 8:48 am Fran's weirdest call last night (outside of the 3 or 4 times he tried to officiate and call his own fouls) was on Agbaji's game-tying 3.
Right after Agbaji makes the 3: "I have no idea why he didn't just go to the basket!"
I don't know, maybe because with 10 seconds left and down by 3 points it's totally normal for a player who shoots damn near 50% from 3 to shoot that shot? Just a guess.
We've never rested healthy guys in the big 12 tournament that I remember either.
Illy's first good post out of, what, 30,000?
If we count IllinoisJayhawk + .net, easily 50k.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:14 amIlly's first good post out of, what, 30,000?
If trying to make a point, +/- for a single game is really dumb. I would guess Juan's is way better than Remy's for the season.
Am fine with Juan closing, but Remy should have had a couple of minutes after he checked out for last time. Especially with the 8 point lead immediately evaporating.Mjl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:24 amIf trying to make a point, +/- for a single game is really dumb. I don't know why people are surprised Juan closed instead of Remy. Even if it wasn't minutes restriction, Remy tries to close games by playing hero ball. We have a hero, and it's not him.
Remy has more variance than Juan. He can give a lot more but can (and has) kill his own team in the last five minutes. I think Bill prefers a steadier hand. It almost backfired yesterday.
This is the only thing that matters. Having a guy beat their main off the dribble is so key. We don't have that without Remy on the floor.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:33 amAm fine with Juan closing, but Remy should have had a couple of minutes after he checked out for last time. I would also say that I'm ready for Bill to lose some of that stubbornness. He himself said that he will be good for Remy, but Remy will also be good for him. You're a boxing guy--NCAA tournament basketball is no longer a sport where you can just Mayweather yourself to 4 wins. And, I do get your point about Och, but our problem last year was having no guys at all to beat their man off the dribble--in crunch time, it's even better to have several.
Getting Remy ready just seems so crucial, and yes, I only ultimately care about how we perform in the tournament.
Part of getting Remy ready though might be only playing him 20 mpg and allowing that knee to completely heal.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:39 amThis is the only thing that matters. I also thought about this last night, but you don't stop short of playing him an extra 2-4 if you think it's going to win you a big game.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:48 amPart of getting Remy ready though might be only playing him 20 mpg and allowing that knee to completely heal.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:39 amThis is the only thing that matters. I have no evidence for this other than anecdotes.Mjl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:53 am Ochai and Jalen both were beating their guys off the dribble last night in OT.
If last night were the norm, then yeah, of course Remy should play way more than Juan. But we have enough offensive firepower that, as of this moment, I am with Self in going the lower ceiling/higher floor route. Another night or two like last night would probably swing the odds on that.
I don't think in a big game like Tech, a top 5 defensive team in the country, you can bring Bobby or Yes in unless there is dire need or it's well in hand.ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:57 am Even if we need to rest Remy, at this point I think we’d still be better off getting some reps for Yes or Bobby.
Yeah it’s a gamble, but at this point so is Dajuan. And either way it would have the benefit of keeping Dajuan fresh if we really do want him closing.
Yeah, the fact that he sat for SO LONG, the entirety of both OTs AND most of the end of regulation seemed weird.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:57 amI also thought about this last night, but you don't stop short of playing him an extra 2-4 if you think it's going to win you a big game.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:48 amPart of getting Remy ready though might be only playing him 20 mpg and allowing that knee to completely heal.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:39 am

I thought we'd play a lot more 2 PG sets.pdub wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 11:00 amI don't think in a big game like Tech, a top 5 defensive team in the country, you can bring Bobby or Yes in unless there is dire need or it's well in hand.ousdahl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:57 am Even if we need to rest Remy, at this point I think we’d still be better off getting some reps for Yes or Bobby.
