never go with the glitter-based necromancer spell in those situations
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

As many know, my Mom is home on hospice care. My idiot brother calls me and the first thing he says is, "We have a 911 situation here." I'm thinking how am I going to get there and get someone to cover for me at work.
Nope, I appearantly misplaced some of her stuff, he couldn't find it and she's freaking out and pissed.
Well, if she's pissed, she's probably ok. But I told him not to pull that again.

Damn, so sorry to hear that, 99.

Not sure what sort of pollen was in the air yesterday, but it was not good. I got a call from my mom at "sundown", never a good sign. She started ranting but neither she nor I could figure out what she was talking about. She got lucid for a minute and talked about my brother and what a "tremendous" thing it is he has a job at the USPS, sorting mail. Yes, it really is the perfect place for an illiterate racist with a drunken chip on his shoulder and a gun fetish. We told each other "I love you" and she hung up. I think she knew I was her other son at least.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 03, 2023 7:54 pm As many know, my Mom is home on hospice care. At 2:30 AM Annie's phone buzzes, it's her mom. She has her on the phone until 4:30 spinning out of control about water in her basement. The snow is starting to melt up there in ND and mom has anxiety about flooding. For good cause. They were trying to figure out a healthcare professional in Fargo ND who would see her on short notice. Something like this happened about 20 years ago, before I knew them. Her mom spent 6 months in a psych ward getting electroshock therapy. Back then Annie quit her job and moved back to Fargo to sit with her mom every day, so this is a revived trauma for both of them.
Is it Mother's Day yet?

Cra cra day all around me today.
Forgetting the insanity in my office (it's been an unusually crazy day)
I listened to sirens for 2 hours straight (3 blocks away from my office).

I got a call from my mom this morning. It seems I am the only person on her phone list who will answer their phone. I remind her that everyone has a job and we are at work. Oh, right, but isn't it Sunday? Nope, Thursday. Most people can't just stop in the middle of their work day and get on the phone for an indeterminate period of time, but I am lucky. I don't work at the USPS sorting mail like my brother. She wants to complain about something but I get her diverted onto a discussion of the beautiful weather. After exchanging "I love you" she says, "well, you have things to cover up so I will let you go." Maybe today mom thought I was trump? So we hung up and I got busy solidifying my criminal legacy.
Annie's mom went off the cliff yesterday. Three days without sleep and she was on fire. It was finally determined that A's mom should take a sleeping pill. She had some prescribed but did not have them. Mom determined that the pill Annie was getting her was going to kill her. So while she waited for her death prescription to arrive, A's mom called her neighbor to come get her dog and take care of it after her death. A confused neighbor was kind enough to come over and see wtf was going down. Neighbor finds mom on the phone with Annie telling her good bye and thanking her for a good job with her mercy killing. Neighbor gets handed the phone so Annie can explain situation, as if that is possible. In the meantime someone shows up with mom's sedative who also has no idea wtf is going on and is passed off to Annie to explain while mom takes her sleeping pill. The neighbor decides she will stay and keep an eye on mom while she "dies", keep in mind these two people don't really know one another, they just happen to own homes near each other. Annie is on the phone with her mom while she slowly winds down into sleep. Mom is thanking Annie for killing her and is verbally giving her last will and testimony. Words stop and mom is asleep. Neighbor says she will wait for Annie's brother and uncle to get there to take mom to ER. Annie's gonna take a much needed nap as well. 30 minutes later Annie's phone blows up. Mom got a second wind and like Lazarus has arisen and has called everyone in the contacts on her phone to say goodbye and ask them to come over and hold her hand while she dies. So now they are calling Annie, many of them don't even know Annie, some found her name on her mom's facebook page. Much craziness transpires for an hour and Annie asks one more favor of neighbor who is on the death watch. Neighbor agrees and calls 911 and asks them to send an ambulance. Police and ambulance show up and mom refuses to go with them, they say there is nothing they can legally do and leave. So mom and unknown neighbor are left alone. I forgot to mention this but there is a big snowstorm in Fargo at this time so it is delaying the uncle and brother in their trips to pick mom up. Mom sends neighbor away for her "betrayal" calling the ambulance and mom is alone in the house. By this time Annie and neighbor are friends and they continue talking on phone. An hour later brother and uncle show up and take "dying" mom to ER. No idea how many more calls she made in her farewell tour, Annie likely fielding wtf calls all day today. Mom is now on a 24 hr hold and being observed to see if she qualifies to be institutionalized. Last time she proved her "qualification" by swallowing her watch and necklace and then smearing her own shit own the walls. They took her jewelry away this time so that is a plus, or a minus, depending upon your point of view. Fingers crossed she gets creative and comes up with a new plan to qualify. She and Annie could both us the rest an extended stay would provide.
My mom's "crazy" is looking pretty fuckin good right now. I recall reading somewhere that politicians are considering improving the mental healthcare system in this country. I would vote for that.

Good on Mom's neighbor. Annie's Mom is fortunate to have someone close who cares, even if she doesn't know her.
My Dad used to get UTI's and when he did he would get septic. We knew it was time to take him to the ER when he started babbling incoherently. It was kind of a routine. He'd get angry and couldn't sleep. They would give him and ambien. That would trip him out for a couple of days and we begged them not to do that. Occasionally they would ignore that advice and give him a half of one anyway. I never had to deal with that level of dementia. You and Annie are in my thoughts.
My Uncle had Alzheimer's. He lived in LA, was a marine who saw action in Korea and then became a detective in LA. Would have loved to hear some of his stories. Before it got too bad, he would call me every Sunday. Exactly the same conversation every week.
"My Mom was born in Kentucky, I don't like Kentucky." My Mom says their Mom was born in KC.
"The Ohio River is actually in Kentucky." I think this is true.
"I went to Keenland with my son in law."
Etc. Good guy, I miss him.

Had eye surgery last year. Apparently, we underpaid the hospital by 60 cents. We ignored a couple of invoices but they kept sending them. Just sent them 2 quarters and a dime. Prolly crash their whole system.
