Good on Mom's neighbor. Annie's Mom is fortunate to have someone close who cares, even if she doesn't know her.
My Dad used to get UTI's and when he did he would get septic. We knew it was time to take him to the ER when he started babbling incoherently. It was kind of a routine. He'd get angry and couldn't sleep. They would give him and ambien. That would trip him out for a couple of days and we begged them not to do that. Occasionally they would ignore that advice and give him a half of one anyway. I never had to deal with that level of dementia. You and Annie are in my thoughts.
My Uncle had Alzheimer's. He lived in LA, was a marine who saw action in Korea and then became a detective in LA. Would have loved to hear some of his stories. Before it got too bad, he would call me every Sunday. Exactly the same conversation every week.
"My Mom was born in Kentucky, I don't like Kentucky." My Mom says their Mom was born in KC.
"The Ohio River is actually in Kentucky." I think this is true.
"I went to Keenland with my son in law."
Etc. Good guy, I miss him.
Mom's neighbor seems like a good sort, she saw a fellow human being in trouble and stepped in to help. She disclosed to Annie that the neighbors refer to mom as "Crabby Barb". Annie laugh cuz her mom has a negative take on a lot of things. OK, almost everything.
I had not heard of the UTI thing. But as soon as they admitted her that was the first test they did, it came back "nope, just crazy". They were able to get her into a local hospital for an extended stay. She needs to take some meds now on a regular basis and needs someone watching over her. One of her retired sisters is heading that way today to take over these responsibilities. Annie can get back to her life on a semi-normal basis for now. We are headed to Loveland for a Colorado rural economic development conference for the week. Learning how to help the people of the Empire develop affordable housing and become evil rich people in their own right. A sudden departure for Fargo would be a big interruption.
My mom's stories can be funny. On Christmas Days she called to say she had been robbed. "These two men came into my room and took all of may jewelry and ran out with it." She usually makes these disclosures in a pretty non-challant way for someone who was just minutes before robbed. I told her that I had just talked to my sister and that her grandsons had just dropped her off at the facility, those were the "two men". "What, my grandsons robbed me?" No they didn't, they just dropped you off on their way to the airport. What did you have for Christmas dinner? "Oh, it was so good, my mom is such a good cook." Yes, your daughter is a good cook. And just like that the trauma from the recent robbery has passed.
And then later when my nephew group texts during a KU game I can give him hell. "Why are we talking about a KU game after you just stole your grandmother's jewelry on Christmas Day you ungrateful fuck!" His mom, drudgery daughter, enjoys that. If you can laugh about it there is less chance of all this shit fucking you up as well.

Glad to hear your m-i-l is safe, and not as much of a concern for you and Annie.
Not always, but frequently when my mother begins to see people who aren't there at the foot of her bed again, as opposed to her routine but less vivid perceived distortions of reality, it's another UTI. The other episodes seemed to be related to her taking a second sleeping pill because she had forgotten she'd taken one already, but we fixed that.

No problem. You have to be able to laugh...
I told my sister that talking to my mother on the phone, I sometimes wonder if I'm in an episode of The Twilight Zone or Candid Camera, or if I'm being gaslighted.
She said at times she finds herself turning her head in a sort of: "Did you hear that?" gesture, even tho she's alone. And I knew exactly what she meant.

Mrs 99 got a call from the hospital tonight asking if she could come in and work due to a nurse shortage.
Here's the conversation she had with 99.
"They want me to come in to work tonight cuz they're short a nurse and they got one pulled to another floor. But they had an unexpected discharge and they may not need me."
"I had an unexpected discharge, I need you."
"Shut up"
My garage band name is now Unexpected Discharge.

It's a little complicated but I work in 3 different departments in my office.
One of the departments consists of 9 employees.
Yesterday, two of the employees stayed home with headaches, one left work with a headache, and another one battled through "the worst" headache.
Perry Mason Gutter has concluded 5 things. I'm not going to share all 5 being that there is the potential for someone from my company to read this but I am going to share that I feel.......
On another semi work related note, one of the employees I work with is an 80 something year old woman who is my buddy. We typically go for coffee in the morning and sometimes go out to lunch together.
Recently she has had a problem with her credit card in which card readers are not reading her card.
If she "taps" it, it works. She doesn't really understand the concept but whatever.
Yesterday we were in a grocery store and the checkout girl told her to "tap" the card.
I told her going forward she needs to remember to TAP - THE BOTTLE - AND TWIST THE CAP. I kept repeating it and the checkout girl busted up laughing. I told the woman I work with to repeat after me, TAP - THE BOTTLE - AND TWIST THE CAP. She did and I couldn't stop laughing. I guess you had to be there.

I think that Gary guy on "The Curse of Oak Island" might have the best job around.
Hes a "metal detecting expert" (really? ...come on...) he wanders around waiting for a beep, has other people dig for him then he scoops up the findings and takes them to an actual expert.
Not a bad gig.

"Got wood?" (Is it just me, or was she looking at Ousey when she said that?)
If it weren't for cars, cycling wouldn't be so problematic!
The El Guarda - Naucalpan bomb back into Mexico City, one I've done many time before. I always look forward to this descent, even though it has traffic it always has a good flow to it. If you're going to ride these conditions at this speed you better not be thinking too much, you need to have done your 10,000 hours and be operating on instinct.

In typical Gutter fashion, I have two vastly different opinions on this.
1. You have to be an absolute moron to think this will help you get the money you are owed by Popeye's.
2. Not a bad idea to have it "recorded" and go "viral" so that SOME (many?) people will actually sympathize with you and will reach out and give you "hand outs".

The odds that this costs the employee money are infinitely higher than the odds it results in him getting money.
