Keeping in mind of course that the Supreme Court has said that Trump can sell these things for cash and not only is he immune from consequences, his conduct is not even reviewable.
I started to post about that, but am not up to date with the thread and didn't want to make a "duplicate" post.
To me, the ability for Trump to bestow exemptions to his tariffs on the people, oligarchs, who suck up to him sufficiently, "It sure would be nice to get that $10 billion dollar contract with the pentagon for that missile contract...", as well as punish anyone who opposes him by withholding government business, is the real reason behind Trump's supposed inability to understand how tariffs will increase inflation, stunt growth, and effectively be a tax on the American people, whose spending amounts to ~ 70% of our GDP. But, he doesn't give a fuck about any of that because, what's in it for him?
It's (also) going to be so much more mundanely stupid than that. Your assorted petty tyrants - your Tom Callahans of the world - will call in their stupid favors to spare their brake manufacturing businesses (and so on) from the brunt of things.
