Lightfoot has better RP40 numbers than Enaruna by a decent amount.

i disagree with this

it isn’t touches for Mitch, it’s post touches to free up the perimeter

you’ve got to do the same thing playing small ball

nobody in their right mind would think it a good idea to run our offense through Mitch, but that doesn’t mean that he should never get touches
I dunno.

Too much of the time, when the ball got into the post, it didn’t get back out.

Contrast that with small ball when there’s 5 people on the perimeter, and all that room to drive in the paint.
The end result is the same though. It's where the ball gets to, not how it gets there.

If you look at Lightfoot's numbers, he's one of the few bench guys to have an argument he should get more minutes. The eyeball test doesn't suggest that. The truth, as usual, is probably somewhere in the middle.

Mitch had a tremendous hook shot and an impressive couple of blocks saturday. He could go 10 for 10 and the eye test says sit him because it seems so random.

The eye test shows some bad beats on defense.
He can get bullied out of defensive position - and sometimes is late on help - BUT he does do a good job at getting back to make some unexpected blocks.
He's good depth - but probably should be the last guy getting actual minutes on a better squad.

That's pretty good, until you start bringing better rebounding teams into the convo:

TRob 2011 - 17.60.
DeSousa 2018 - 16.91.
Dok 2020 - 15.09.
TRob 2012 - 14.94.
Landen 2016 14.64.

Also part because TRob was such a good rebounder but also part because Withey wasn't, Withey 2012 and 2013 ranks below Jalen Wilson 2021.

I was gonna ask, how often is our 4 man our best on the boreds, and figured the only other one in the convo was TRob.

And Jalen isn’t even particularly big or a freak athlete or anything either

He just goes and gets them.

You want actual per game numbers or per 40 mins?

my jr. high b-ball coach was adamant that rebounding is 90% want and 10% size

If that was true, Frank Mason would have averaged 10 RPG in 2017.

Same could be said about defense in general. Frank Martin was asked that during the Final 4 run he had by the SI Kid reporter. "Defensive success more about effort or technique?" Frank loved the question and said effort because you can always teach technique, but you can't coach effort and the "want to"

I agree that defense is largely effort and want to but I disagree that you can't coach effort and want to.

Careful bro.

I suggested someone try to coach some “effort and want to” to Andrew Wiggins, and I’m still getting shit for it in the nba thread.

That said, I know DeSousa made the WTF team, but Self's said one of this team's weaknesses is rebounding, and DeSousa could do that.
