But not when it’s a black teenager, and not when it’s a cop otherwise sworn to maintain peace.
What? This is blantatly wrong. You are not required to fire a warning shot at an attacking animal.....
I think I’m thinking of a specific instance with the last grizzly in CO.

Authorities investigated cuz they’re endangered species or whatever and acted like the hunting guide should have known the difference, even though grizzlies are officially not even in the state.

As the guide was laying in his hospital bed recovering from maul wounds, feds read him his Miranda rights...
Thats dumb. Its also 1 time out of how many thousands?

My buddy shot a cougar that charged his buddy while they were pheasant hunting last year. Nobody ever said anything about a warning shot....they said, great shot, you saved your friends life. They didnt let him keep the cat but who cares.

Not sure why you can only identify/empathize with the attacker in this situation.
Kind of where i am at in this situation. Especially since at least at some point she was able to call the police from inside her house. Sounds like when the police got there or got close is when she came out with a knife and tried to fight the girls....maybe thinking that the police would stop it, but she could still get a few licks in on the girls trying to jump her?

What about the parents of the other girl who now AREN'T having to bury their teenage daughter?
We have no way of knowing if the other girl would have died if the attacker was allowed to live.

Some reports alleging it was a steak knife.

But in many cases, officer's actions do not matchup with the situation. This does not seem to be one of those cases.
If that was your daughter about to get stabbed what would you prefer the cop do?

Let her stab your kid a few times just to be sure?

All reports i have seen are that only 1 person had a knife....those girls coming to jump her is wrong, but she escalated it by bringing a knife out of her house knowing the cops were there or close to being there.

True, but do you let her stab her a few times first just to be sure? I don't think so. Both lives matter. Only 1 was trying to stab the other with a knife.

Cop probably did the right thing from what i have seen, but unfortunately a child lose their life.

Heat of moment, hard to tell. At a certain point, the weapon does not matter, the intent does.

Curious as to why you're coming at me with this point. It sucks. It's sad. But I've repeatedly said the cops had no choice but to take the action that they took.

A steak knife is enough. A bright orange 12" ruler is not.

You can kill someone with a steak knife.

You could probably kill someone with a 12” ruler.

Yes, you could also bludgeon someone to death with a biology textbook, but neither are deadly weapons per se.

Probably lower than the odds of that shot hitting an innocent bystander on a ricochet as well as the odds that the officer would be fired for such a reckless decision.
lol

you gotta stop with the absolutes. you don’t know any more than the rest of us...unless i’ve missed your posts about working in law enforcement
Not sure how absolute the word "probably" is but whatever. Someone asked a question that can only be answered with an opinion and I gave mine.

I think it’s fair to expect trained police officers to be able to fire a round, wait 1-2 seconds and then reassess.

Sorry that you think that’s only possible in a video game.
"Oops, looks like that didn't work and she proceeded to stab the victim in the face. Guess I better try again".

Yeah, go sell that procedure to the family of the person stabbed.
Good damn, you’re such a weird fucking dude.
Sorry to be so darn practical and think about the real world application of your theoretical expectation.

You’ve mentioned this story before. Can I ask for more details?

Did anyone investigate? If they were pheasant hunting, did he shoot it with bird shot, or some other weapon? Did any media pick up the story?
