The best nugget I've seen so far is that these idiots weren't even going to see Titanic wreckage directly; it was going to be on a monitor.
Wait, no.
They wouldn't be able to see out of the sub directly?
What???

Egregious. I knew from the get go this was an implosion. Just such bad engineering and safety practices. I am sad for the passengers and frankly shocked this grift was allowed to go on at all. It has all the hallmarks of the lawn chair, helium balloon and bee-bee gun story.

This isn’t true from what I’ve read.
You could see out of the porthole directly.

Just saw another physics take:

The pressure of the implosion would be so strong that the air within the submersible would heat up really really hot really really quick

Imagine being so deep under water that you burn to death

I still don't think they'd even have any idea what was happening before it was over....so....thats....good? I guess

But now just leave.
We don’t need to study what happened.
We don’t need to recover the wreckage.

They signed waivers.
The end.

If we DO need to study what happened, let’s study what happened to those poor migrants in the Mediterranean.

Cuz now reports of “contradictions” in the Greek coast guard’s account of the whole thing…

‘If they had left us be, we wouldn’t have drowned:’ CNN investigation raises questions about Greek coast guard’s account of shipwreck tragedy

https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/23/europe/g ... index.html
CNN’s analysis of marine traffic data, combined with information from NGOs, merchant vessels and the European Union border patrol agency, Frontex, suggests that Greek authorities were aware of the distressed vessel for at least 13 hours before it eventually sank early on June 14.

The Greek coast guard has maintained that people onboard the trawler had refused rescue and insisted they wanted to continue their journey to Italy. But survivors, relatives and activists say they had asked for help multiple times.
...

Survivors who say the coast guard tried to tow their boat say they don’t know what the aim was.

There have been multiple documented examples in recent years of Greek patrol boats engaging in so-called “pushbacks” of migrant vessels from Greek waters in recent years, including in a CNN investigation in 2020.

“It looks like what the Greeks have been doing since March 2020 as a matter of policy, which is pushbacks and trying to tow a boat to another country’s water in order to avoid the legal responsibility to rescue,” Omer Shatz, legal director of NGO Front-LEX, told CNN. “Because rescue means disembarkation and disembarkation means processing of asylum requests.”

moving right along….

so I sit down at the bar at the breakfast joint for some coffee and home fries, when some totally random tourist sits down next to me, and starts loudly slurping their coffee.

What’s the best way to address this?

is it OK to just politely say, “sorry to bother you sir, but could you please try to not slurp your coffee so loud?”

Or should I just deliver a precision elbow directly to yall’s slurp hole?

you get offended by lots of things.

lots of situations that you feel you need to address instead of just....yknow....being and letting be.

The best course of action is to finish up your meal and leave and go about your day. Do we seriously need to cause confrontation over such a dumb thing?

What a sad comment on our society. smh. If only we didn't have guns everywhere for people to reach for in the heat of the moment. (That, and video games, and lack of school prayer, etc.)

That being said, if you're 14 y/o and did have access to a gun like in this situation, and you saw your mother being beaten by a man... And were told to do so by your own mother!!!

We had a locked/unlocked gun cabinet, (it didn't matter since we all knew where the key was), full of rifles and shotguns and revolvers and ammunition, and although it occurred to me to shoot and kill my father for the same reason, the thought didn't linger. No doubt due to a million reasons, whereas the murder victim in this case might have been a total stranger?

Decades later, my older brother, who was a very quiet introvert who frequently slept through a lot of the late-night terrorizing of our mother while I laid there in the dark awake in the bed next to his wondering if I would soon become motherless...revealed that in the middle of one night while everyone was asleep after another particularly violent episode, he had gone to the kitchen and got a very large knife and creeped up the stairs and snuck into our parent's bedroom and took the knife and held it high up over his head, ready to plunge it down into our sleeping father's heart, but thought better of it.

Thank goodness.
