I’m glad I don’t live in an apartment anymore. I don’t get to decide when I can open my own windows?
A few thoughts on that......
Living in Chicago, the weather often changes. Sometimes unexpectedly.
If management was smart, they would simply say keep your windows closed when you are not home - and if you are home and it's raining - don't keep your windows open IF rain/water is coming in to your apartment. I have a corner apartment. Sometimes when it's raining the rain can be pounding on my windows on one side and on the other side there may not be a drop of water.
I do understand where management is coming from being that there has been a lot of water damage due to people leaving their windows open during the rain. My guess is usually because someone isn't home and they left their windows open but of course there are the fucks that just don't give a damn.
The same people who leave their trash (including glass bottles) all over the rooftop ("sky deck") despite there being many garbage cans they can throw their shit away in.
On a window side note and speaking of the negative aspects of apartment living...
Because of the way my and many other people's apartments are set up, there are often STRONG cross drafts when people leave their windows open. The biggest problem with that is it causes doors to rattle or actually slam (when people open them). I have discovered NOTHING can be done other than if I cram door stops under my door AND in the side of my door. Problem is no one else does it nor cares.
As the great Fred Sanford would say.....

If I am not mistaken, I think I may have posted that a long time ago.
Regardless, no apology necessary and no offense taken. I figure it very well may have been intentional.

Back to apartment living......
I could hear them so I looked through my peephole and could see a new neighbor moving in right now.
I would guess she's 30 something years old. Unattractive blonde and her even more unattractive 60 something year old I assume mother (maybe lesbian "partner"?) is helping her.
NOTHING funny about Tourettes but if I really wanted to be an asshole I might open my door and introduce myself while I scream profanities - and they might/would question if I have it. I would then go back in my apartment and go right up next to the wall that divides us and continue to SCREAM profanities.
Welcome to the 50th floor neighbor.

Funny/not funny.
Sitting in my living room with the window open....
I hear tires screeching and then the inevitable crunching sound.
I get up and look out the window.
This is what I see....
At the beginning, the male Taxi driver was yelling at the woman in the car. Throwing his hands up in the air. Very animated.
About 10 minutes later I wondered why the cops hadn't shown up yet. They were blocking the turning lane to turn on to Chicago Avenue.
About 2 minutes later I watched the woman ZOOM away. In my 10 minutes of observing them it never looked like they exchanged drivers licenses or insurance information. Did she not have insurance?
In the meantime, I was getting ready to walk over to Target to get a few things. As I was getting ready to walk out my door I got a Citizen alert on my phone alerting me that there is a "fight" right near the Target. Two Black males, two Black females, one of the Black males has a gun. Ummmm. I think I'll wait a few minutes before I go over there.
So, how is your morning going so far?

Dude shot himself in the leg in his car across the street from me earlier today.
About an hour ago a bunch of assholes got in to a fight and someone got stabbed - two blocks from me.
I might as well live in the hood/ghetto.

Some guy got murdered in his home about 8 houses behind ours a few weeks ago. Apparently, the murderer thought he was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend. Bas shit happens everywhere eventually.

Moral of the story is.....
If you don't have an ex-girlfriend then you won't/can't excuse someone of having an affair with her - and then you won't murder someone because of that reason - and then get caught and go to jail for it?
Or, sort of like you said, bad shit happens almost everywhere and no matter how hard you try to stay away from it and/or avoid it - sometimes you witness and/or at least hear/read about it happening in your own "back yard".

I decided to upgrade the joysticks in my new arcade. I did lots of research on what type I wanted and hunted for weeks to get the exact ones I wanted. Since I really don't have any damn clue about the mechanisms behind such things, it didn't damn on me that the things would show up and have different wiring needs. Long story short, I've learned a lot about the wiring inside an arcade. The connectors I need to get from the new joysticks to the Game Control Board arrive tomorrow Hopefully this better preps me for when I eventually upgrade the buttons.
I love doing weird new projects like this. It's fun to wander into a new challenge you've never tried and working through it. My wife has just been laughing at me (when not asking me if I have ruined it or not). At least the parts are all cheap... I don't mind a $17 mistake here or there.
Sometimes you don't know what you don't know until you get your hands on something and have to figure out a solution. Random thought for the day. Carry on.

I had one in Jersey. Heavy thing. Almost impossibly hard wood too.

So..... Early this morning I woke up to take a piss. I looked out my window and noticed 3 boats in what is referred to as the "Play Pen". I thought nothing of it other than it was late/early for 3 boats to be there. Typically people leave by midnight unless they pull an all nighter.
Anyways, I was awake for about 10-15 minutes and then looked out my window again and all 3 boats were gone. Hmmmm.....
I can't help but wonder if this was one of the boats.
P.S. I have no idea why they are searching near Navy Pier if this happened near 800 N. Lake Shore Drive - unless they feel the current/s pushed the body that far.

Todays's edition of If the thunder don't get ya then the lightning will....
Two nights ago. Stabbing at the beach basically across the street from me. Shooting by Northwestern Hospital 2 blocks from me.
This morning... 1:45 am. LOUD construction(?) noises woke me up. Drilling and banging. Couldn't tell if it was on my floor or the apartment above me. Perhaps a maintenance emergency? Seemed to be both above me and down the hall. Well, it was both. Construction(?) above me and some assholes on my floor going in and out of an apartment basically slamming the door.
I fell back asleep around 2:30am.
3:50am. My phone rings and wakes me up. It's the person at the front desk calling. I ask what's up. She asks me what the problem is. I ask what problem. She again asks me what the problem is. I was unsure if she was referencing the construction(?) noise and/or the door/s slamming - so I asked her. She didn't answer but she did ask me what apartment I am in. I told her and she said - "wrong number". I asked her "wrong number" as in apartment number or phone number? She said, "bof". Silence. No apology. I hung up.
