I think it was mentioned in the game thread, but, man, yea, could you imagine what Self would do with a guy like Oscar?
Cal got him to a NPOY last season and a 1st team AA this season most likely.
That's about as good as Oscar can do/hope for individually.

Cal creeps me the fuck out
He's the textbook definition of a slimeball to me. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
See, I dunno. He wears his motivations on his sleeve.
I find people like that really quite reliable - agree or disagree on the details, but at least you know what they're going to do.

I’m not surprised that you and CNB like the guy.

I am glad Cal was helpful anecdotally to an unknown woman. But he does seem to think highly and often of Cal.

Woman is not unknown to Cal, and according to her, the list of these anecdotes is long.

The entire broadcast was Bilas bemoaning that the UK guards weren't throwing it into the post to Oscar. If he was on a Self team, there'd be 25 idiot message boarders posting about how we throw it into the post too much.
Go re-read the tweet JFish posted. Cal's done great by any objective standard, and he got passed by Self like he was standing still. Cal's clearly done a great job with Oscar...Self would have done even better.

I don't think Oscar would have been NPOY on a team with Och CB JW Remy and DMac.

I don't think Oscar would have transferred to a team with Och, CB, JW, Remy, and DMac, in fact...he didn't.
I was comparing apples to apples...all things being equal, I think Self gets more out of his lead bigs, especially offensively, in large part because he likes to play inside out...even as recently as last season. If you switched rosters in last night's game, I know that Self would have gotten Oscar a touch on nearly every possession and he would have exploited the size advantage.

Yes.
Self is a better coach than Calipari in all facets.
I think our defense had a lot to do with their guards hesitancy to throw it to Oscar last night....although it's not like they NEVER threw it inside. He had 18pts and 4 assists. But he had 3 turnovers and the way we were trapping and helping off other guys giving him extra attention was giving him/them fits.
We had a good gameplan for him. And we also rebounded the hell out of the ball. We hit the glass with tenacity. Everyone 1-5 were locked in on the defensive glass. That was clearly a top priority coming in.

It's going to take a long time - and, unfortunately, a forced recalibration of expectations for us - for folks to really understand what it is that Bill's doing here.
He's closer to #1 all-time than #2 in his generation (which, broadly, is everyone "newer" than K/Roy/Boeheim, as I see it).

Glad to see we aren't the only fan base who knows better than the coaching staff what the best lineups are.

I know I am in the minority but I don't dislike Cal as a person. I don't respect some things he has (and hasn't) done but he's always been kind and respectful to me.
Meanwhile, I think UK has to let Cal go or Cal has to walk away if UK doesn't win two or more games in the tournament.
3 consecutive seasons of major disappointment doesn't (or shouldn't) cut it at UK. Especially when the coach is getting paid about 9 million a season - to suck.
The question is where does he go from UK? I predict the NBA.

The most
logical thing for Cal to do would be to make UK fire him, and then go count his money on a beach for the rest of his life.

This is to jfish's point and post, you'd be pretty foolish to use Self as the measuring stick. But, we're talking UK here where the slightest hint of a slide is not acceptable.
But again, I think they'd be pretty dumb to get rid of him. Would hope that blows up in their face like firing Tubby did.

What's a bit ironic is that, if you decide to stay the course with Cal (which I think, on the balance, UK should)...it would be because you trust in Cal's coaching chops.

Calipari is 63 years old. I don't think getting rid of him is the best option for them, but preparing for a predecessor should be on UKs mind.
