Julius Jones freed!

And by “freed” I mean, now “only” sentenced to life without parole, for a crime for which there’s apparently lots of new evidence to suggest he didn’t do it

rather than today be murdered by the state through whatever fucked up inhumane bullshit they call their means of execution.

Pro-life thread coming through in the clutch!

Fuck Stitt! People really think he did a good thing?
Call me crazy but I would rather be put to death than have been in prison for 22 years and have to spend the rest of my life in prison.

Hmm.

I dunno.

I’m guessing he didn’t feel that way today. And will be grateful to embrace his mom for the first time in 22 years.

Apparently some other guy has unofficially confessed to it too. If only they could find him. (If only they’d spend as much effort looking for him as they do incarcerating), or somethin)

OK’s execution means is so fucked though. Some extremely suspect lethal injection that apparently prone to subjecting the victim to conscious pain and convulsions and shit, and can last for like 20 minutes before it finally takes effect. And guess how many pro-life Oklahomans support it!

The Merican penal system is so brutal tho. We’re like the only developed country who still does this shit.

the “land of the free” incarcerates a higher proportion of its population than any other country on the planet

Yeah, we’re like 5% of the world population with like 20 % of the world’s prisoners

There’s more black folks imprisoned in Merica than there are imprisoned on the entire continent of Africa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday pledged to empower private citizens to enforce a ban on the manufacture and sale of assault weapons in the state, citing the same authority claimed by conservative lawmakers in Texas to outlaw most abortions once a heartbeat is detected...

"If states can now shield their laws from review by the federal courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people's lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm's way," Newsom said in a statement released by his office at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

I'm not wild about what this means in the big picture (not that it hasn't effectively happened already, but this sort of thing delegitimizes the Supreme Court, which is supposed to be the bulwark against everything being subject to the political winds).

But logically it follows perfectly.

we need to bring back the supermajority for judicial appointments.

Scotus is supposed to be the bulwark against everything being subject to the political winds, but that sentiment comes from a time when justices were confirmed along more than the narrowest of party lines.

but I'm more so excited for the narrative to change about how the libs are now the ones with no regard for the courts, or the constitution, or stare decisis, or blah blah blah, and how this ban is actually not pro-life at all, cuz what if you're like, attacked by a rioter that you provoked with your assault rifle but don't have your assault rifle to defend yallself?

Did Supreme Court ever require super majority? I thought it was just lower courts.

SCOTUS legitimacy has been eroding since Thomas hearings (thanks a lot Biden!). It’s degeneration is complete when Garland wasn’t seated but Gorsuch and every appointment since then.
