clemson, fsu, oregon, usc...
I don't see oregon or usc as viable for SEC because of geography. Not sure they'll get enough schools to vote yes. And that's not even mentioning the huge cultural differences. Is it a net gain? Those 2 aren't even top 20 revenue earners according to that link.

geography went out the window long ago
and culture? do you really think the SEC is a better cultural fit for UT and OU than the Big12 was?
have you been to either university, or know anything about the communities in which they reside?

The SEC is better than the Big12 period. It's not even a discussion. They went there for 1 thing. Money.
I was making the case for why the SEC wouldn't want oregon or usc. It's not up to usc or oregon if they get to join the SEC. The SEC schools have to want them. And they won't. Neither are top 20 revenue earners. So it wouldn't be a net gain.

“The SEC schools have to want them. And they won't“
you don’t know this, yet state it as fact...a common problem you have in these exchanges
if anything has been proven as fact, it’s that money drives this. if espn/fox tells the SEC that there is enough additional revenue from adding a university, nobody in the SEC is going to balk at that...history has shown this to be the case

I listed 3 schools that appear to make way more sense than Oregon and/or USC.

How can schools that already make less money than 12 of the SEC teams (assuming texas and Oklahoma are added) be a net gain for those big dogs in the SEC to want to split the pie into even more slices?
The SEC just went after the 2 schools they wanted. It didn't happen on accident. They've been working on it for a year (at least) it sounds like.

and i didn’t deny that those three were legit targets, i’m just of the opinion that there are additional marquee programs that may move the needle enough for the likes of espn/fox to substantially increase revenue
it’s the same argument for the B1G looking at PAC schools

Remaining Eight don't have to panic.
Nor do the other conferences.
Bowlsby did not send the C-and-D ltr without full concurrence of the remaining eight. That ltr suggests a readiness to sit tight and see how things develop, while fixing in place the league's position and presenting a united front. It also improves its position for future negotiations, and signals to those who might wish to be considered for admission, that the Big 12 is planning for the long haul.
All of which are subject to changes as the winds blow...

The scheme is working perfectly. Those 2 are all but a lock for SEC...and now the remaining big 12 schools are going to scramble to find a better home and it'll possibly result in one of the remaining teams (us?) eating the fee so they can move before 2025.
I sure hope we're looking out for ourselves and ourselves only. And that we'd leap at a B1G offer, even if it's painful.
That article about espn trying to influence the merger with AAC makes me think the BIG10 may be a longshot.
The article makes me think KU needs to tell ESPN to F off and sell its noncon basketball games to CBS and FOX.
Offensive that ESPN would look at us as AAC material after the ratings KU has drawn for them.

Really? If the XII folds, but if it's due to interference w/ contract(s), the potential claims of damages don't evaporate when they paint over the league's logos.
There's still a half a billion $$ in play for league as well, some or all of which may be included in those claims.
imo, of course

if one conference is going to "fold into" the other, why would the BIG 12 become the aac? and not the other way around?
AAC in its current form has the ESPN deal already.

I didn't see it as offensive. Big 12 is worth more to them alive than dead. And it wasn't just kansas to the AAC it was a merger.
Or maybe they think Kansas to the big 10 is an unrealistic ending? At that point an AAC Big12 merger still leaves us in the 4th or 5th best conference which is exactly where we have been.

I think "sit tight" is a viable approach. At least 'til some smoke clears.
https://sports.yahoo.com/opinion-big-12 ... 15641.html
"The Big 12’s best chance at survival is sticking together — at least for now. Unless the college football oligarchs decide otherwise, the league can backfill from the AAC and the Mountain West while maintaining Power 5 status. College football is largely a consumer product, but the Sun Belt has shown playing the sport at a high level still matters.
While Big 12 schools each received $37.7 million in television revenue during the 2019-20 school year, that number will undoubtedly plummet without Oklahoma and Texas. Even with the drop off, those payouts may still be more lucrative than the $5.3 million each AAC member received this year.
On the field, a reconstituted Big 12 with Boise State, Central Florida, Houston and possibly an independent like BYU would expand the footprint and preserve a conference identity centered on high-powered offenses. Not to mention create compelling TV, which is ESPN’s endgame to begin with."
