Stapleton is one of the few artists I've seen thay sounds exactly live....I mean, exactly like he does on his records. He's terrific And George .....is the king.
Guess what?
Your post is somewhat helping to influence me to attend.
I'm not really a fan of Strait and Stapleton but I don't hate them by any means.

Some issues preventing me....
Like I said, I'm just not a really a fan.
Cost (which is actually reasonable but still a factor).
Venue (one factor being the security lines suck).
Getting out is a bitch. Very crowded and a slow process. Walking home or riding my bike home (especially on a Saturday night when there are fireworks at Navy Pier) has the potential to be a not fun experience. Sure, I could always leave early but then the crowd factor from/at Navy Pier becomes an even bigger hassle.

Some reasons I should go.....
It is live music after all.
Beautiful evening weather wise.
Being social/great people watching.

"Top 3" music events taking place within reasonable (under 3 miles) walking distance to me today.
In no particular order and personally - I don't have much interest in any of them......

1. Volleywood.
https://www.volleywoodchicago.com

2. George Strait with Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town
https://www.soldierfield.com/events/det ... rge-strait

3. Pitchfork Festival
https://pitchforkmusicfestival.com
Forgot I could have walked a mile or so to see Common perform at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion with a fireworks show after.

DING DING DING we have a winner!
Sort of.
I did go to Volleywood briefly during the day.
Last night I watched a fairly entertaining Team USA/WNBA All-Stars game.
Probably should have gone to Millennium Park to see/hear Common and the symphony. Easy to get back and forth - and free. Oh well.

Sigh.

Mrs. 99's favorite restaurant is Texas Roadhouse.
I'd rather eat at someplace local with a more interesting menu. Problem is, she's very picky. No seafood. No "weird stuff you like to eat", beef, pork and chicken only. Lean, not that fatty stuff. Cooked extra-super well done. So we generally go somewhere generic because I'll eat it and she won't try anything outside of her comfort zone.

So we go TR the other night. Seated quickly, friendly efficient server, food comes out timely. Salad is fresh, steak is cooked to perfect medium rare. Tater is hot and fresh outta the oven. They get her steak extra-super well done.

Dammit, and they are always consistent.
Yeah, yeah, I know, STFU and quit whining 99, you had a good steak and tater.
I will never be able to get her to someplace cool.

i would not have expected your wife’s tastes to be so…generic?

i don’t mean to offend, it just comes as a surprise given what little i know about you and your culinary acumen

It's been an issue for a long time. We've been married for 39 years. I used to have friends in KC or Lex to go out with for stuff she won't eat. I need to cultivate some friends here for that.

Just pisses me off that TR is so good at what they do.

I have never eaten at a TR. Closest one is about 20 miles away. Maybe next time I take a road trip I will hit one up in your and your wife's honor.

I have a 80 something year old co-worker. You could feed her sautéed maggot infested dog dick in a cream of elephant shit sauce and as long as it was "tender" she will say it was really good.

When I lived in Colorado, TR was visited about twice a year. My steak was always effed. Either soaked in salt, overdone, fatty, or some combination of the three.

My wife’s steak was perfect everytime. I just came to expect they are going to mess my food up. I’ve been once in Lawrence since moving here. It was alright.

I was going to try and list the top 3 steaks in Portland area but I so rarely get steaks ( because they are like 50 dollars when I can cook my own for 12-15 ) that all I got, that I can remember, is:

1. The Grill Room

I think I got steak at Petite Jaqueline and Fore Street but both weren't good enough to even recall if that's where I got them.

Yeah, the price point is half of what TR seems to do right.

It’s fucking horrible that: I live local and had not heard this story before;

And,

I kinda laughed that it happened in Leawood.

Anyone been to a Dave's Hot Chicken yet?

I love it.

Not my thing. Something about dipping fried chicken in another vat of oil does not appeal to me.

I have walked or driven by the Dave's on Fairfax in LA at least 20 different times. I'd say 18 of those times I was tempted to go in and eat. Never did.
Maybe the next time I am out there? Probably not.
