He didn't leave for South Carolina, he won't leave for Kansas.

We're in agreeance. I do think that if an outside hire is made, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones, Drake and Chevis Jackson stick around. But I think that is a ways down the road. I do also think that a decision will be made one way or the other by end of April.
Jones, Drake, and Jackson need to stick around whoever the new coach is. I also wouldn't be surprised or mind to see Eargle be on a new staff. What are the odds Goff makes a run at his guy and he gets introduced at the spring game May 1? Obviously just speculation but I could see something like that happening.
Kind of what I thought too. New Coach takes in the final part of spring practice/spring game.

If it doesn't happen then, it's probably Jones.

I just don't think Jones has the experience yet. But make him the Assistant HC and OC. Keep him and the players happy.
We’ll have a new coach by May 1st. These next 10 days are going to be wild.

NewtonHawk11 wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:28 pm Can't go wrong with either of those. Slope gets slippery if you move beyond Monken and Leipold.

I mean it was pretty obvious it was Miles in 2018. It seems pretty obvious that it's going to be Monken or Leipold.
Those two are for sure you went the wrong way. Monken has a serious problem in that the offense that he has always coached with does not really fly at KU. If you take away his offense and he runs something from the 21st century then he is not really the same coach.

Leipold is 37-33 AT BUFFALO IN THE MID-AMER CONF before that he was Division 3 coach.
This guy was making 50k six years ago. He be in over his head.

It was pretty obvious Miles was Long's guy. Also obvious why no one wanted Miles after LSU.
We have made four tragic hires. We can only hope we get this one right.

Monken will not succeed at KU, Leipold has a better chance of having success, but not by a whole lot.

Reasonings not saying you won’t be wrong or anything, just curious.

I think given our recent history, you could probably be safer by saying something like "x coach will not succeed at KU" and be right.

I 100% hope I'm wrong. My opinion mirrors hartjack's for the most part; both are good coaches, but the hole is so deep, I'm not sure how anyone pulls this program out of it.

Where I would start is not making 4 costly hires in a row.

To me, Monken and Leipold represent the type of coach we should have hired the last couple of times. A program builder that has won everywhere they have been. Maybe the hole is too deep and even that type of coach can't fix things. But it's about the last thing we haven't tried. So what happens if they fail too? What is the threshold of just giving up and folding the program then?

Miles was of that mold and had the ring to go with it.

Miles was insanely qualified for the job and the football side of the hire was going about as well as could have realistically hoped when he was justifiably fired for other reasons.

I think we have tried it all, and this time you really just have shade towards the safe options. Build over several hires . . . we have been at this losing thing for well over a decade.

Step 1 was completed with Miles.

Like 10 steps to go.

Interesting/great take; not sure I've ever heard the "build over several hires" philosophy before.

I think that is premature only because we will have to see what kind of player losses we take if/when a completely new staff is brought in.

Jon Kirby from Jayhawk Slant doesn't really disclose much on searches.

He did however add a name a bit out of the blue. Will Healy from Charlotte. Dude is 36. After an 0-11 season his first season, he's been about .500 at the FCS level with Austin Peay and at Charlotte.

But a poster on one of the message boards put together an interesting connecting of the dots. A flight leaves Olathe today and lands in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at 6:30. A flight leaves from NYC area and lands in Winston-Salem just about 15 minutes later.

Could Liepold be meeting today with KU?

And yes, I know Buffalo is hours away from NYC, but the more important part is that FLIGHT TRACKING SEASON IS UPON US!

I listened to an interview Jon Kirby did. He mentioned that spring Game May 1st, Finals start like May 10th and then guys go home. If you hire externally, you HAVE to hire within the next 10 days. The coach has to be on campus before students go home.

And shit, I didn't even realize. West Point is like a 40 minute drive from that White Plains Airport. So shit, maybe it's Monken..?

FLIGHT TRACKING SEASON BOYS! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT EXCEPT FOR STRAIGHT CHAOS!
