Self gets his players better looks at cleaner shots than Tech does. Tech really doesn't run very good offensive sets at all, which is why I am not terribly concerned about any perceived offensive "issues" that McCullar is thought to have.
If one of the freshmen is good enough at both ends of the floor to start over McCullar then KU will be really good. I just see the McCullar as way ahead of any freshman on the defensive end and performance at that end always seems to be a priority to Self, especially early in the season.
We have lots of interesting parts on this team and we will cause a lot of weird mismatches similar to what Tech did last season with all their weird shaped players. Harris is freaky long armed, McCullar is oddly sized for his skill set, Wilson and Adams aren't the typical size for the games they play. Gradey is probably taller than most of the guys he will match up against and Clemence can drag a big defender out to the perimeter more than your average big.
That's exactly how I see it other than I think it is wild to think that both freshman will force McCullar to a lesser role. McCullar is closer to being our top player in minutes than he is being behind all of Dick, Rice, and Yesufu.
It seems like a team that can play with anyone in the country, but is also very beatable. Get us down by double digits, and I bet we're toast. Only guy that can bring us out of that would be Gradey already being a lotto pick, but I'd like Jalen to surprise us and become a dog.
Agreed. McCullar feels to me like the third largest "lock" from a starting/minutes perspective.
As far as coming back from big deficits, the one thing I think the team will have going for it is the same thing last year's team could do which is to just shut down an opponent's offense and get a bunch of transition buckets.
In the NCAA title game comeback against Carolina, Kansas started the second half down 40-25 and fought back to get the game tied at 50-50. They did not hit a single three point shot during that 25-10 stretch. Remy hit KU's first three pointer of the second half to give KU a 53-50 lead. I think next year's team could have a similar ability when down big.
that is such a fantastic stat

That stretch probably earned CB 7 more figures of dough.

Gonna be real great this next season when you're grinning ear-to-ear after a 54-55 loss.

wouldn’t hurt any more or less than a 101-100 loss

LOL, can I hope for a 56-55 win?

OK then debbie downer time, I think that the team is 3-seedy talent wise but Self gets them to the back end of the 2's. Noticeably worse than UK and UNC.
Big 12 goes:
UT
KU
TCU
Baylor, b/c Scott Drew sucks.
Last year's team was a 3 seed talent-wise as well to pump some sunshine back in the discussion.

I can guarantee that Bill Self will remember it for a long time and his future teams will hear about it.

Nobody has even really mentioned cam Martin either. What if he surprises us and is good enough to play
Cam is still at KU because he dates a smoking hot softball player. Not to play minutes in important games.

I don't agree with that, but sure would be nice if this team plays like a bunch of NBA prospects.
You can see future paths for Wilson, McCullar, Rice, Udeh, Clemence, maybe even KJ.

My prediction is that KU will shoot a better 3-pt percentage next year. There were some cold stretches this year. It is about attacking the basket and taking rhythm shots from distance. The defense next year will be terrific based on experience and size too.

This about right but I think we tie with Texas for the ship.

In other words our returning players from last season are not great prospects.
The 2020 recruiting class of Thompson, TGF, Muscadin, and Jossell will probably go down as the low point of the investigation-affected recruiting era.

I am curious what Zach will look like given actual minutes.
Obvious coach's talk, but that comment there suggests he'll start? It feels weird to say, maybe cuz Self bigs have almost always been down-on-the-block type players, and Zach seems like more of an outside-in game than maybe we've ever had at the 5.
and whoa, that 2020 class, woof. Have we ever gone 4/4 for every recruit transferring after freshman year?

For game 1 I'm going
DH
Yes
JW
KJ
Clemence
I think that'll change some by December.

I could see that.
I could also see Self starting Dick
then pulling Dick out by the first whistle
Dick's first time will prob only be like 2 or 3 reps max.

Harris, McCullar, and Wilson are locks to start.
Then there's 3 guys in Dick, Rice, and Yes competing to fill the other guard spot.
Clemence or Udeh at the 5.
Don't see a spot for KJ in the starting lineup unless Wilson gets another DUI. He's a 4 then a 3 unless we play small and/or the 2 tall guys suck.
Sounds like Pettiford is backup PG with Yes looking to only play off-ball unless Pettiford's health doesn't hold up.
Take this to the bank. This rotation is actually pretty well defined considering how much we lose following a Natty.

I could see KJ get more minutes at the 5, depending on matchups and such.
If an opposing big is out-bigging us, not the time. But against the kitties and such, hell ya. What we’d lack in size, we’d make up for by switching everything and running out the gym.

Would be matchup dependent, because KJ didn't show really anything in the way of a rebounder or a rim protector. T-Rex arms.
I don't know what they're listed at, but KJ can't be any taller than McCullar and McCullar's wingspan is about 5 inches longer. Not saying play McCullar at the 5, but I think we just forget how short KJ came in as and he does not play taller the way Jalen does on the glass.
