that reminds me, did anyone else swap body parts among their GI Joes?
Used to swap heads and arms on my sister's barbies and claim it was paranormal to freak her out.
I had a hulk hogan figurine for which I moved the thigh pieces to between the shoulders and elbows, and reattached the knees to the hips, so he had enormous wingspan but little Cotton Hill legs

do you have to stay at the office party for four hours?
show up right at the start, mingle enough so that you’re noticed, then dip out discretely…an hour or hour and a half tops. then go get you some choice grub
This
Went to the work party. Better than I thought it would be in regards to mingling. Being that I don't drink, they tend to be a bit tough for me.
Food wise, I have no shame in saying it was BY FAR the worst holiday party in my 18 years of working for the company. Shameful, and I truly mean that. Told several co-workers I was going to go to McDonalds or Portillos (Italian Beef Sandwiches) and pick up about 20 sandwiches and bring them in to the party to hand out to people so I could be a hero. Most sincerely wanted me to do it. It was that bad.
I left the party at about 7:15pm with my favorite co-worker and she gave me a ride home.
Forgetting that I had my building party, I actually walked to the McDonalds near my building to feed myself because our work party was so awful.
Came back to my building and had still forgotten about the party until I was in the elevator and the doors opened on our "fitness center" and "winter garden" floor where the party was being held. Doesn't make sense that's where the party was being held because he have a really nice party room on the 60th floor but whatever. Very little that management does makes any sense to me.
I saw some of just out of college age kids (young 20s) hanging out by the elevator/s. 4 got on the elevator with me and I asked how the party was.
"They ran out of drinks". Of course they did.
I then asked if there was food.
"Yeah, they had some food". I didn't bother to ask specifically what food/s but a leaf of lettuce and stale roll would have been better and more appealing to me than what they served us at my work holiday party.
Back to the office today. We have about 350 people who work in our Chicago office. Most are in the office a couple days a week and work "remotely" the other days. I'm not kidding when I say there will be less than 15 people in the office today. I'm going to guess 9. I have a lot of work to do but I am going to take a 2 hour GOOD lunch and expense it. After last night, I feel I should do that every day for the rest of the year.
P.S. The theme for our holiday party was thankfulness. While I may come off as a spoiled entitled asshole, I'm going to go ahead and say I am thankful I can realize that the party last night was......

I don't think the company I work for is doing anything for Christmas. OK by me, couldn't make it anyway.
A few of the restaurants I worked for would close down for an evening or have the party on a Sunday when we were closed. Those were the best. Especially The Cornucopia. We'd cook all day. The owner would "barrow" a shopping cart from the Dillons across the street and fill it up with bottles from the liquor store next door and the party was on. All freaking night. Good times.

Pretty much the perspective they wanted us to have last night - how fortunate we are.
Alluded to all the problems and issues in "the world" right now - and others in this country who are "less fortunate".
I have reiterated today that I am grateful for my job and anything is better than nothing in regards to having a holiday party - but the consensus is that was a head shaker/head scratcher last night.

And you were able to celebrate and enjoy your day/evening with your work family. Had meaning and purpose to you.
Those were days. Right?

Mostly we ate well and got hammered. But yes, those were the days.

Speaking of parties....
Co-worker sent an email at 3:00am saying she won't be at work today. She was clearly WASTED when she sent it (see examples below). All she had to do is say I'm not feeling well and won't be in. Instead she sent a 500 word blah blah blah story/excuse. Something about someone possibly having Covid and she wants to make sure she doesn't have it before she comes back to work - despite her saying she has tested herself 3 times and it's been negative each time.
"It's 3:00am right night but". (night - meaning now)
"Her boyfriend he I inv her hockey". (I have no idea what that means)
"so so so sooooook so so sorry!!!!" (a lot of "so" and a k at the end of one of them)
"Rogers crossed" (rogers - meaning fingers)
"I hope I'm there more" (more - meaning tomorrow)
"il be our tomorrow" (our - meaning there)
"God I play" (play - meaning pray).

Brutal much? Imagine waking up sober this morning and reading that.
She sounds pretty lit.
What's the over/under she even remembers sending it?

This year the office holiday party will be at Rye on the Plaza. 30 employees in the KC branch plus significant others. Mostly an evening of congenial getting updated on the lives of each other’s significant others who we don’t see much of during the year. We have almost no turnover so everyone has known everyone else for years. We lost one employee in the last three years to a competitor and he came back to us within a year. The Aussie bf of one of the women on my team will insist on sitting next to me, I laugh at his jokes. When he gets really drunk and starts talking shit about one of the other partners I will say, “Daniel, you need a hug!” He will stop yammering and stand up and we will give each other a big bear hug and he will say, “I fuckin love you” and sit back down smiling, forgetting the shit talk he had just started, and order another drink. This will make his gf laugh and glad she sat him next to me again. My shit talked partner will give me a look that says, “why does he always drag me when he gets drunk.” I will give her a look back that says, “you know why.” After the third or fourth hug Annie will say, “Let’s go, you have done all you can do.” Annie finds drunks irritating. She is allergic to alcohol and spent a good part of her 30’s as the designated driver for her women friends group every weekend, holding someone's hair so they didn't puke on it, or listening to them cry about some guy who dumped them on the route home. We will go home and the dogs will act like they haven’t seen us in a week. I will bust out the vape and the older dog Stella will look at me as though I am a vagrant, smoking crack in an alley. Damn she is judgmental. Dok don’t care, he will bounce around the kitchen waiting for his nightly biscuit before going to bed. All in all it will be a pleasant evening.
We could skip the dinner and add a few thousand$ to the year end bonus pool but everyone seems to genuinely enjoy getting together.

Yeah, I feel sorry for her. I'm hoping she is diabetic and can say she was having an "episode" that caused her to lose her mind a bit.
The fact that it is "documented" in an email is not good for her.
I wouldn't be shocked if she doesn't show up to work again. She has a position that she can find another job pretty easily elsewhere.

I only wish I dated someone like that - who gets wasted and doesn't care that she's stuck with me.

Last night 5:45pm
My apartment building.
4 passenger elevators and a freight elevator.
Often 1 elevator not working. Typically fixed in a day or two.
One of the elevators has been down for about 3 weeks.
Spoke to Miguel one of the maintenance guys who has worked in the building for 35 years. The building is 37 years old.
Gutter, "Hey Miguel, what's the story with the elevator?".
Miguel, "You don't know what happened?"
Gutter,"Nope".
Miguel, "The woman who got stuck in it called 911 and said she having a heart attack so when the fire department got here they broke the shit out of it. Not just the elevator but the walls around it and everything".
Gutter, "Of course. So let me guess, she wasn't really having a heart attack"?
Miguel, (Laughs loudly, rolls his eyes, shakes his head) "You know that now it's a fight between the building, fire department and city, and insurance company for who is going to pay to fix everything and the building isn't going to fix it until it's decided".
Gutter, "No, I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me. So it probably won't get fixed until 2027".
Miguel, (Laughs loudly)
Gutter, "What the fuck".
Miguel, (Shaking his head) "You know the deal with the pool too. (We have an indoor pool that they did major renovations to and was supposed to be re-opened in January of 2023 - 2023, not 2024 so it's been about 12 months past the date residents were told it would re-open).
Gutter, "No, but I know the fat guy about my age who would swim in it every day isn't happy"
Miguel, "He's a doctor and asked to get out of his lease because of it and they wouldn't let him'.
Gutter, "So what's the deal with the pool"?
Miguel, "It's bull-shit what the building is saying" (The building told us it had passed city inspection but is waiting on "state" inspection).
Gutter, "Of course it is bull-shit, so what's the real story"?"
Miguel, "Same thing as the elevator. Still a problem with the drain system (which they originally told us was the delay back in January) and they are fighting over who pays to fix it so no one has fixed it".
Apartment living at its finest.
