My cut-rate holiday flights are not a deal now that I need to change the return date. The change fees are $200 per ticket (and the flight is still >21 days away). I gambled and I lost.

If you’re new departure is <24h difference from the original departure you can roll the dice and try to stand-by and save the $200. However, as you already found out it may end up costing more especially if there are more than one person traveling. Standby works well if you have ‘elite status’ with the airline. That’s one reason I like Southwest - at least they don’t stick you with change fee on top of the fare difference!

To make matters worse, most of them don't even have regular insurance, which means they are letting us foot the bill through Medicaid and Medicare, and are also the idiots who show up in the Emergency Room with a sore throat and then skip out on the bill. The upshot is that people like me, who exercise five or six times per week and watch their diet to maintain a healthy weight end up getting screwed.
I had a heart attack in June. Didn't have health insurance. Fortunately, I can manipulate income to qualify for Medicaid. Without it, would have had $160k hospital bill. Would have fucked me for life.

Thanks taxpayers. Thanks HouseDivided. Without you, I'd be dead. But, I probably deserved that too.

As far as maintaining a healthy weight....3 of the 14 in my Cardiac Rehab group were similar to me, in that we are reasonably sized, and exercised. Only 2 of the 14 were 'obese'.

So, if I’m understanding you correctly, almost 79% of the group was overweight and out of shape, i.e. had the most common preventable causes of heart disease? Yup, we should all definitely foot the bill for them. Great point.

You ignored that only 2 would be outwardly classified in the group you described from your waiting room visit.

I'd suggest that we assume health care is there and afford rather than current model. But, I know that's not realistic in the short-term.

And again, thanks for your tax dollars. Sure did help me. Hope it pisses you off, too. Careful, though, you don't want to stress on superfluous issues too much, as those might lead to a heightened blood pressure, and then who knows what other risks that may expose you to.

For the record, I don't disagree that many people who have health issues could probably mitigate some of those issues with preventive healthy choices.

Man, sorry to hear about that! Scary, but I'm glad you made it through.

You said 11 of the 14 didn’t exercise, and I assume, although not obese, were overweight: hence my assumption. For what it’s worth, I don’t begrudge you your surgery.

I didn't say 11 of 14 didn't exercise. That's how you chose to read what I wrote bc it fit your beliefs.

You said 3 of 14 were “reasonably-sized and exercised”. Logically, one would assume that the other 11 were not reasonably-sized and did not exercise. Simple logic.

Yeah, my grammar was bad for sure. If I only could have afforded a good education instead of going to KU bc it was cheap, maybe I would have worded my thoughts better.

Nah, KU is good and cheap (or was). Why can’t health care be the same?
