Friday, 7 February, 2003: Rumsfeld foresees swift Iraq war
Any war with Iraq would be swift and not require a full US mobilisation, says US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
..."The game is over," President George W Bush declared on Thursday, as he urged hesitating allies to join in disarming Iraq.
But the French prime minister rejected Mr Bush's formula.
"It is not a game and it is not over," said Jean-Pierre Raffarin.

Qassem Soleimani was LITERALLY responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American servicemen in Iraq as well as the current unrest among the militias he supports, funds, and arms.
His death is an UNALLOYED good and the inevitable response that American forces had promised/warned of for days.
The idea that it was Trump's emotional response to a tweet is simple-minded, insulting the American military leadership, and beneath you -- or at least, I thought it was. My mistake.

Reassuring how many of our allies have fallen all over themselves to be among the first to voice their support for Trump's decision to strike Iran.

What's interesting is that DC is so gleeful about this.
But isn't he the guy who has been unrepentantly skeptical about everything about the Intelligence Community? Making fun of them, criticizing them.
So, how did they find this guy to take him out? They had him on CCTV?
No, tell me that Intelligence folks weren't involved!

My husband had been trained in military intelligence, which involved at the time of looking at lots of maps.
He had a whole collection of National Geographic maps and back when the advisers in the Bush Administration were pushing for a war with Iran, he pulled out one of them and pointed out that the terrain is not much like Iraq.

At the end of the day, we ASSASSINATED a sovereign nation's military leader on foreign soil. That, in and of itself, is troubling. This wasn't a rogue terrorist like Bin Laden.
How would the US respond if Iran had assassinated one of our Joint Chiefs?
To me, this seems like a US Declaration of War, done without ANY congressional approval that we know of.
Not good.

Wonder if anyone at the Pentagon or State did any research as to the residual effects of overthrowing a duly elected Premiere in the 1950s in order to install the Shah.

Started with one guy getting assassinated. The great powers thought it would be over in a couple of weeks.
Health care is gonna be so easy.
Trade wars are good and easy to win.

While America has never suffered from a lack of believing to our bones that, "it's different when we do it", when you add the nativism that republicans have been stoking for decades and that Trump has so masterfully taken advantage of, armed with that empowerment, the likelihood that Trump will overtake GW Bush for committing the most disastrous self-inflicted foreign policy mistake in our nation's history, is definitely a possibility.
But, we're no longer talking about Trump's impeachment, so

You people are losing perspective here. My tax breaks are safe and the economy is still going strong today. My daughters are not in the military so I got no skin in this war game. We won the battle of Baghdad airport, wave the flag, USA! USA! USA! It's great to no longer see our president apologizing to other countries, just kicking some ass!
tiny went to military perp school and business school. He has been successful at every new adventurous endeavor he has thrown himself into. It's not like when Rummy and Cheney were in the WH. We don't have to worry about getting lead into a war by idiots who have no end game in mind. His results so far speak for themselves, he has eliminated the military threat in N Korea, Obummer couldn't do that. Iran is going to be easy. This stable genius is a successful pragmatic businessman and he will run our war machine the same way he ran his businesses, with an eye for making himself more wealthy. That will trickle down as dividends for all of us.
I think we have to continue to put our trust; much as our lord and savior Jesus Christ has, in tiny until he does something that shows us he can't be trusted.
Seriously, what could go wrong?
