I would say that anyone who can make it to the theater to see 1917 should.
It may not be better than Parasite as a film in terms of content ( i.e. best picture ) but I'm going to highly doubt that the directing could be beat -- the work that went into making the film is so meticulously insane.
The build to the final scene is tough to match -- because the entire movie is one long build.

And the sound is immersive. And the score by Newman is better than Joker's.

We watched (rented) Ford vs. Ferrari the other night. Great movie - Christian Bale was fantastic! I highly recommend.

We watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last weekend. It was...fine? Aesthetically perfect, the typically-snappy Tarantino dialogue, etc. But awfully bloated and self-satisfied.

Seemed kind of a conglomeration of several of his other films. Which, agreed, is not overwhelmingly great given we've had him for awhile, now.

It's no Cannonball Run.

I'm not sure I'm saying anything much different from what you said, but it certainly felt like lots of parts were inaccessible for someone who's not a cinephile, generally, and a Tarantinophile, specifically.

Or, in other words, someone not in on the joke.

Right. The ending is not great at all unless you know QT.

I agree, as much as I like Tarantino, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was only OK.

Went to the movies with Mrs 99 last night and saw a movie that has 0, nada, zero chance of getting any awards.

Downhill

It was downhill after the opening credits. 90 minutes of Will Farrell looking stupid into the camera. I have to admit that the mountain scenes were beautifully shot.

She had to look at Will Farrell's stupid face for 90 minutes. How do you think she was?

Thanks for the warning. Someone brought Downhill up as a possibility yesterday, and all I could think was, "no way"!

I don't dislike Will Farrell, but I'm surprised he's been so successful.

It's short, and the photography is great if you do get dragged along.

Doesn't really bother me that he said this, but bothered why he said this. Trump doesn't know shit about movies, let's be real. He cited Gone With the Wind because it's one of only like 2 movie titles that the knows of outside of Home Alone 2.

The why is what is disappointing. A lot of people saw that clip and heard Trump bloviating. I heard the cheers and the boos.

Yeah. Sad and stupid. But Trump.
