This thread is bizzarro. Fries are awesome.

Popeyes sides are overrated.

If we're talking other sides, I have to throw in my boy Sonic and their tots, onion rings and ChedRPeppers.

Arby's Jalapeno Bites with Bronco Berry sauce also needs to be mentioned.

Arbys has very good cheesesticks too. By fast food standards.

Sonic is just not consistent at all. Service is often inexplicably slow, even when it doesn't look busy. And they have so many sides that it seems like, more often than not, you're getting things that have sat for a while.

But fries is the right call.
What makes a very good side salad?

It seems to me that in general, most fast food places have done a good job of moving toward made to order, or at least assembled to order, for their entrees. Sadly, they're still content to serve old ass sides that have been sitting in a warming bin.

Popeyes sides are overrated.
Can any other fast food joint match the variety?

Both awesome:

Dipping Popeye's fries in mashed potatoes or red beans and rice

AND

Dipping Wendy's fries in a vanilla Frosty (or any fries in a vanilla shake).

Well fresh veggies to start. I've had side salads with cucumbers, red onions, carrots, cherry tomatoes and mixed spinach and lettuce.

Sunflower seeds, banana peppers/pepperoncinicis, chick peas, cheese, croutons, raisins or strawberries, corn, black beans etc have also been in random side salads at spots before.

But mostly it's what you described - iceberg lettuce, a slice or two of shitty tomato and your choice of dressing.

If we're talking simply fast food though - yea, don't get the side salads.
I was thinking sit-down restaurants.

Yum.

But yeah, anything more than a couple veggies, and that’s usually gonna be an entree salad.

Jack in the box has every single side that exists.

Ha. My dad is obsessed with jack in the box - the tacos, to be specific.

There was one in his hometown growing up, and they heard the company was bought by Purina, so they grew up calling them “dog meat tacos.”

The only vacation we ever took growing up was from MI to my uncle’s in bumfuck GA, and we’d stop in Tennessee and fill a cooler with them so he could eat them for the whole vacation.

I get a stomach ache just thinking about it.
