Great googly moogly:

While at the University of Kansas he led Jayhawks to the 1952 NCAA title, capturing MVP honors and scoring a then-NCAA-record 141 points. A two-time first-team All-American at Kansas,[1] Clyde led the Big Seven in scoring in each of his three seasons. Playing for Basketball Hall of Fame coach Forrest "Phog" Allen, Lovellette led the nation in scoring his senior year (1952, 28.4 ppg) and was named the Helms College Player of the Year.

Lovellette and basketball legend Dean Smith were teammates at Kansas. He is still the only college player to lead the nation in scoring and win the NCAA title in the same year. Lovellette's dominance in the paint landed him a place on the 1952 Summer Olympics gold medal team in Helsinki, Finland and he was the team's dominating player and leading scorer.

Lovellette easily over one of the last 2.
I dunno about that, in a largely non-integrated era, I'm not sure one national title trumps back to back FF's.
I am very partial to the modern era and think limiting to 4 is pretty much impossible, anyway. But Lovellette was an absolute giant in the sport. Add on the 2 consensus first teams, NPOY/Title combo year, IIRC he also led the country in scoring, yeesh.
Even then, Collison might get the 4th spot over Mason.

Second all time scoring
I only came to kick some ass...

You guys know KU played ball before Self got here right?
I don't think it's all that surprising to see a lot of the names higher on the rankings coming from one of the greatest 20 year stretches in the history of college basketball.

I hate leaving off a Bill player, because golden era and all, but Collison is like LaFrentz but with accolades and trophies. Which, is insanely good. If you are going with a Roy player, it is Collison, while acknowledging that Pierce was Roy's best talent.

In some ways, that's how I feel about Lovellette. He's a poor-man's Wilt. If you include Wilt, you don't need to include Clyde because you already have the better version, even though Clyde has the title and Wilt lost in the national title game.

I think a poor man's Wilt is an argument for putting a player up there.

Why did you randomly say we need to out KU fans as just being Bill Self fans?

I took that to mean you find it embarassing how many people rank Bill Self players higher than players from other eras. I don't think its a knock on players from other eras, I think its just people thinking players from 30+ win teams are better than players from 23-24, or less, win teams.

What's embarassing about that?

Nobody is denying how great guys like Collison, Pierce, Gooden, etc were. I just don't think it's embarassing if someone says they think Graham or Mason were better college players than Jacque Vaughn.

I apologize if I completely missed the point of your comment, just wasn't sure how else to take it within the context of the rest of the thread, lol.

Ummm.....

Ousdahl said he didn't know collison won POY awards and said he didn't pay attention to KU before attending college. CnB said most people don't remember collison winnin POY and didn't remember himself that gooden won POY honors.

My post was a response to that. If you don't remember how great Gooden and Collison were, you weren't a fan, or at least weren't paying attention at the time.

And, if it's about the success of the team...we made the final 4 and won 33 games in 02, and played in the national title game and won 30 games in 03....so not sure what that comment was about. Lol.

We weren't even ranking players until I brought it up long AFTER that comment. Did you read the thread backwards?

Gooden and Collison were greats.
I get what you're saying ND--but Collison in particular could be argued top 5 all time so it's not the same as Vaughn v Mason or Graham.

That said, there are people who didnt start following til recently...so I think you can forgive them if they dont remember Rois guys.

I don't remember if a guy like Adonis Jordan ever sniffed a AA team...that was before I started following.

As long as you arent concretely saying, here are my top 10 Jayhawks, and its Wilt and 9 guys from 2008 up.
