Long shot, but is anyone planning on going to the open practice on Saturday? Curious is that's the first hint we get at who is atop the depth chart at various positions, especially if they do a little bit of scrimmaging. Wouldn't be surprised if all that is kept pretty secret though still just because at this point it's still very fluid and doesn't matter a ton, just more for fan speculation.
I think I will be in Lawrence on Saturday, but 8:30-10:30 is a little early.
I know that it is August, but having it at 1:00 and selling beer would have been the way to go.

Bryson Stricker posted a blurb yesterday that said that they did a live drill where the offense started at the 30. 5 reps all together. Goal was to score a touchdown.
Kendrick got 2 reps, Daniels got 2 reps, Bean got 1 rep.
One QB led a TD drive. It was Bean. KU is tracking speed of players when running during camp. The highest speed so far hit in practice has been Devin Neal (RB) and Rich Miller (LB) who have both hit about 21.5 mph. Bean hit about 22 mph apparently and if not for the typical quick whistle with QBs, would have scored on a long option run.
Bean is going to start at some point. It's just dependent on him getting the offense down more. I would imagine he is the first QB on the field on September 3rd. His talent is too good to keep him off the field.
Ok, Devin Neal will be a true frosh game 1 player if that's the case.

(In 90% of the games over the last ten years, the other team could have mailed us their playbook on June 1 and we still would have been noncompetitive.)

Newell was on with Rock Chalk Sports Talk yesterday and says everything he has heard and seen, Neal is the real deal.
He's way bigger than I thought, way faster than I thought. Just a guy you build around on offense.

He looks huge. If he's fast, too, then he's an NFL player.
I hope he stays at KU.

Devin Neal also just turned 18 today. He definitely doesn't look like a typical freshman and I'm excited to watch him play.

What the hell?
Give him a waiver to come back. School's not started and never played a snap?

Just saw a report that he actually went home a little while ago for personal reasons and to think things over, then decided to leave the team. Something like this throws up some red flags. But I think we'd take him back if it were at all possible.

There is just the one remaining question, though, what happened?

Unless he's going to Tennessee, I think he's seriously regretting his choice to leave. He seemed happy here. Left Lawrence really late compared to some of the others. He played early and often.
Shane Beamer is a first time head coach and maybe it's not going over well there.

That is the question. Something like this doesn't usually just happen without more to the story. He said he wanted to go play closer to home when he left KU so would that really change? Prunty is so talented but something like this could limit his options on where he could go next.

If there is an off-the-field issue, it is a pretty easy no. But if not, I would think we are the only FBS school that would have a shot at getting him eligible to play in 2021.

I am willing to let him come back. I am that type of fan.

I was told he burned a lot of bridges when he left but for his talent I'm sure that would be nearly instantly forgiven.

Pretty good.
