Sure.
Honest question, how many KU fans here have roots in the state of Kansas that go back to 1863?
I think my grandfather's Mom's side of his family moved to Doniphan County Kansas in the mid 1850s and his Dad's side moved to that area some time in the 1890s. So only one of my 16 GG-grandparents can be traced back to the area back then.

Not sure if this isn't completely off topic, but I think there are some very shitty things about both the states of Kansas and Missouri. Political cesspools, sure, but just some real shitty areas.
The difference, though, and I've seen them all, is that Missouri's shitty areas aren't just shitty, they're fucking scary.

do only direct descendants from Quantril’s raid have reason to take issue with it?

You only have to be human to take issue with it. But that's different than it being a contributing factor into hating the sports teams for the University of Missouri.

for some it is
that doesn’t mean it has to be that way for all, particularly since misery (and mizzou) remains far from being the poster child for racial equality

mizzou, with the Antlers and their “no mom tom” antics have continued to connect the school/fan base to the issue
it’s not like it’s being fabricated just because

I don't hate the state of Missouri but I do hate their university's sports teams. To me, the two things are unrelated.

twocoach, do you think all of the press coverage around the border war and links made to slavery are all just fake news?
do you think your experience is the general one, and mine is the minority?

I live in Missouri and I am physically in Missouri as I type this - and for those transgressions, I hate myself immensely as a human being.

I am excited for the basketball game this weekend and all the flashback hype videos leading up to it. I have no desire to back and forth any more on the rest of it and I doubt anyone lelse in interested in reading it. We're here to talk basketball.
It's been fun reading all the random stories on twitter and look forward to attending the game in person. The 2:15 start time will give us time to hang around Lawrence after the game, grab some food and enjoy the post game atmosphere. Go Jayhawks!

The whole "slavery/Quantrill" as a reason seems forced. There are no Mizzou fans who have anything to do with that so it seems like a silly reason to hate them. And there are a ton of Kansas fans who like myself, were born and raised by Kansas grads/fans just over the state line in Missouri so it seems extra dumb.

What's the line on the basketball game right now?
Is the game definitely going to stay on ESPN or could they bump it to a different channel? I'd like to set my DVR to record it before I head out in the morning.
Anyone got any recommendations for a post game burger and beer besides Burger Stand? They are slow as fuck.

Both sides of my family fought off the Missouri bushwackers. My great great grandfather moved from a Kansas town that was pro-Missouri in fact.
