Chiefs 2023
Re: Chiefs 2023
You're not getting that for Sneed.
Think 3rd and that's it. Maybe a 3rd and a 6th or something?
I think you're overvaluing him - he may just barely be a top 20 corner - but more likely he's just top 25.
And I think you get more than a 1st and 3rd for Chris Jones.
But in that scenario i'm taking Jones at 30 million and a 2nd and 4th for Sneed, all day.
More reasonable scenario in my opinion:
A. Chris Jones at 28 million. 3rd round pick for Sneed.
B. Sneed at 15.5 million. 1st round pick, 2 2nd round ( 2024, 2025 ) picks for Chris Jones.

Re: Chiefs 2023
Cornerbacks are replaceable, KC has done it time and time again as has every other team that moved on from a CB that wanted too much money. KC got great play from a couple of low drafted rookie CBs while Sneed was out.
A DT that has as much impact on the game as Chirs Jones is not replaceable. Sign him and figure the rest out.

Re: Chiefs 2023
We also coached up Chavarius Ward and didn’t resign despite him probably being a top 25 corner.
Re: Chiefs 2023
There is a way to sign Jones, so they need to figure it out.
Re: Chiefs 2023
I don't think the return for Jones would be quite that rich - who's giving that AND paying him $30mm? But I'd be happy to be wrong.pdub wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2023 2:00 pm You're not getting that for Sneed.

Re: Chiefs 2023
I think Sneed could bring back a late second, depending on trade partner, but more likely a 3rd and a day 3 pick. I think Jones could bring back a 1st, 3rd, and two day 3 picks. No chance anyone is willing to give up multiple 1st round picks and pay him $28m+ per year, though.
Personally, I’d rather have Jones for the next 4 seasons than Sneed, even if his annual cap hit would be roughly 1.5-1.7x Sneed’s. CB play is critical, but KC is very good at getting the most out of their DBs. CB play also just varies way too much year to year to tie up $20m in one guy annually, with the exception of truly elite corners like Gardner, Surtain, Ramsey, etc. It was a very good decision to walk on Ward, even though he was still good in year 1 with SF.
Jones has been very consistent and seems like he could be a real outlier in terms of the age at which he starts to decline.

Chris Jones isn't at the level of Khalil Mack was when he was traded but he's not far off ( Chris Jones was in the hunt for DPOY last season ).
And he's not as impactful as a player as Tyreek Hill but it's close.
Tyreek got us a 1st, 2nd, 2 4ths and a 6th.
Mack 2 1sts, a 3rd and a 6th.
Something like a 2024 1st, a 2024 2nd and 2025 2nd for Chris Jones and our 2024 3rd is within reason.
And I don't think Sneed is worth 20 million.
That puts him in the top 5 cornerbacks - he's not a top 5 cornerback.

Re: Chiefs 2023
Basically agree with all of the above. My only hesitation with the Jones trade haul projection is that teams have been getting better at valuing drafting picks recently. I think 1st/2nd/2nd for a 3rd is probably the ceiling, and Veach should really think about pulling the trigger if anything like that is currently on the table.pdub wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:43 am Chris Jones isn't at the level of Khalil Mack was when he was traded but he's not far off ( Chris Jones was in the hunt for DPOY last season ).

Definitely agree on Sneed, though. He's really good and has been surprisingly consistent, but he's not a true, elite #1 CB.
Re: Chiefs 2023
Would you take the Bears 2024 1st, 2024 2nd and Justin Jones, presumptive RDT starter, for Chris Jones right now?
Re: Chiefs 2023
I personally think the Bears will be in the hunt for the very last playoff spot in the NFC.
It's a trash division with the Lions maybe being the favorites.
Think mid teens pick.

Re: Chiefs 2023
Maybe. But that’s their ceiling. If fields doesn’t develop as a passer, they win 6-7 games. And if he pops an ACL or something, they win 3-4.

He’s gotta understand that they can’t put too much money on an aging player and strap the team to a bad contract.
There’s a salary cap to navigate.
I’m sure the Chiefs have offered him a fair deal worth millions and millions.

sure comes off as selfish
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Chiefs 2023
Not the most likeable Chief, that's for sure. This deal would have been done already with almost anyone else.
Re: Chiefs 2023
Yea.
Mahomes and Kelce could be breaking banks but want to help the team and Chris Jones is likely turning down at least 45 million in guarantees.

Mahomes is what, now the 4th highest paid QB?
