(...pols bordey but yea younger generations are not only increasingly progressive; but, as the world becomes increasingly unaffordable but also increasingly uninhabitable, also increasingly disillusioned by established systems that got us there, like capitalism. I think you meant to suggest "a world of Qusdahls" means a bunch of entitled brats too clueless to change their own damn tire, but that's actually a criticism more of a class-based socioeconomic hierarchy. The true Qusdahls would rather build societies without class distinctions. In that regard, this term is likely misapplied here. Or, if your comment was more about mutual aid, and were instead referencing AAA's description of themselves as "a not-for-profit, fully tax-paying, mutual benefit corporation," with "no shareholders," whose "mandate is to serve our Members," then maybe that isn't quite so misapplied after all, considering how giddy the Qusdahls get over the construct of "mutual aid," if we can apply it here. Oh, and I'd like to conclude by referring you to the time, well-documented right here on the boreds, when I offered the mutual aid of spending the day up a forest road to help Defixione change his tire after AAA wasn't worth a damn. Rather, it WAS a bunch of Qusdahls - yours truly, and a few off-the-grid bohemian artsy types who happened to drive by and offer their tools - who ultimately helped get that tire changed...take that, market-based solution!)

oh my god.

I meant it exactly in the context it was said.

you constantly come here and bitch and moa and complain about things that most adults that had learned anything through the years would be addressing and fixing them damn selves.

okay then...if I ever happen to drive past you with a flat tire, don't expect me to help unless I'm compensated according to what the market forces of supply and demand may dictate at that particular time and place.

Well, to once again leverage the wonders of free market supply and demand…

You better hope you get that flat on private property.

Cuz if it’s a public road, imma pull over right by you and read every single page of Kapital at the top of my voice, unless or until you pay me to shut up.

The truth comes out.

Congrats on quitting a shitty situation. Life is too short to be stuck in an unhappy work situation. Plenty of ways to make money that don't suck the happiness out of life.

But, most likely, everyone here has done a stellar job, and it’s all the ‘fault’ of ‘other’ people. I know it’s not my fault. I have either shot blanks, or the women have swallowed, so no kids of my own. Probably best my DNA ends here.

I posted this on Link’dIn, where most in my network are in the boat business:

“One thing that has become crystal clear for me these past few years: in the marine industry, no one seems to be truly interested in curing their ills.

Despite having survived significant challenges, many veterans are being replaced with less experienced people for less money. But who do the top-level managers feel is more experienced and equipped to navigate the rough waters ahead?

As seasoned professionals, we recognize the sound of thunder and know that it's a precursor to something bad on the horizon. Rather than being what we are viewed as (scared or weak), we get lean….we encourage our managers to work with our manufacturer-partners to chart a course of survival.

Let's focus on KPIs that build real growth and develop a team of customer-centric staff to focus on the client, not just the product. Underappreciated, but not defeated, we will continue to navigate these choppy waters.

Good luck to all of my professional friends as we find ourselves waving goodbye to the craft that WE built.”

The responses have been very encouraging, and I am confident apply to many fields.

Note: I posted this in the aftermath of getting phone calls from dozens of General Managers, Sales Managers, and District Sales Managers who have suddenly found themselves unemployed…with no notice.

Despite what is out there being reported, from actual people on social media, and those in my industry, the job market is a hellscape right now.

Among other things, it doesn't help that the excess savings that led to a spending spree due to the government benefits plus inability to spend on "things" during the pandemic have played out, and it looks like a recession is in our future. GDP is already falling, and inflation persists. To maintain profits co.s avoid hiring and cut back on their higher-paid employees. There are still plenty of lower-level jobs available, but until the economy reaccelerates in the 2025-2026 timeframe, it looks like leaner times are on the horizon.

Far too often, companies treat their experienced employees as no more than an expense that can be easily replaced by a lesser expense and fail to realize the revenue generated by that experience. I work in one of the few IT jobs in a bank that generates revenue and as the lead on a team that would completely fucked without me so I feel safe from the chopping block but I have already seen numerous invaluable resources let go and replaced with younger, cheaper, less valuable employees.

i don’t think that’s true at all (the first part)
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I felt this and then when a new guy came in to run things found out I wasn't.
That said, in the last 2.5 years since the new guy thought I wasn't, they have gone from a company of 70 people to a company of 30, including firing said new guy.

Life's too short to endure working at a place where you're unhappy. That's why I respect Plano quitting. Plenty of ways to make money that don't suck the happiness out of you. I'd rather be broke.
