All this seems just a little late.
I agree. Canning both Grimes and Borland mid-season and promoting the two assistants then rather than now would have sent a message to the players that we are not settling for mediocrity and that excellence is expected. Who knows how many commits and transfers might have been saved? Now, the transfer portal seems to be the only salvation.
To me, it sends a message to the players that the coach has no faith in them to get it turned around so now he is going to roll some heads to cover his own ass.
Midseason firings are never good and rarely result in some big turnaround. Frankly, the KU team turned it around as well as they did BECAUSE they didn't fire their coaches midseason. I doubt more players would stick around after the assistant coaches they came here to play for are fired in the middle of the season. Firing an OC halfway through their first season shows impatience and a lack of sticking to your word and if I was a player who saw that, I'd start questioning everything a coach said to me and would probably leave for a more stable environment.
Midseason firings accomplish nothing but satisfying fans who want blood for being annoyed by missed expectations.
Well said twocoach. How can you tell a replacement that he may not get an entire season to prove himself? Not a good hiring practice. Not a good way to lure someone else.

here in 2024(almost 2025), i would show the children as much loyalty as they show the program. which, here in 2024(almost 2025) is next to zero.
Yup.
Good luck with that "strategy".

I would normally agree, but when you take the most talent-laden roster of the last twenty years and turn it into a 5-7 shit show, exceptions may be in order. But, that's just my opinion.
Like I said, midseason firings accomplish nothing but satisfying fans who want blood for being annoyed by missed expectations.

KU had the lead in the 2nd half of all but one of their losses. Daniels had numerous games with mind blowing late game turnovers.
Yes, the playcalling was also questionable but you can't fire a guy midseason of his first year. That makes the entire organization look incompetent.

Borland stepping down.
Coordinators both gone.
Let’s see if it makes a difference.
All this seems just a little late.

When I said this seems a little late I was talking about before the start of last year, it would have not done any good in the middle of the year. Grimes never should have been hired. It was a mistake and the coaches he has now should have been the move.
Borland has been the same DC since he got here. He probably should have never got here.
The problem is I think the Wizard is 100 percent ok with the defense. It is the defense he always has had, and he brought in the DC last year to learn from Borland so the transition would be smooth. The new DC may bring a new slant to things.

So far we have gotten 15 portal transfers. We have three new OL and we got Foster back so we looking good. Daniel Hishaw Jr never put his name in the portal. Have not heard anything so he must be staying and we got one RB from portal. We picked up one TE in portal and we have Hanika the TE from LY who got hurt and didn't play coming back so we done there. We lost our top four WR's and so far we have two from the portal.
We lost 10 players to the portal of them 3 are significate. D J Warner who at this time has not signed with a new team and the punter as well as the kicker. The last two are going to be most likely upgraded by the portal. We already have a kicker from the portal.
We have one DT Keyes from portal so we done. We have two CB's and one Safety. We lost the top 4 lb's and we have two from the portal. We also have one DE from portal.
Overall there maybe one school so far that has taken more players than us. We need a punter. I think we also need at least two wide receivers, a linebacker, a defensive end and an offensive lineman.
Grimes son is still on the team and has not entered the portal.

Kansas has landed another transfer from Alabama. On Monday, Alabama wide receiver transfer Emmanuel Henderson Jr. announced his commitment to Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks. Henderson will arrive on campus with five catches for 96 yards in his career. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-1 wide receiver was a rotational piece for Alabama on offense during his career. During the 2024 season, Henderson played the fourth-most snaps of any wide receiver for the Crimson Tide. He totaled 146 offensive snaps, which comes out to 12 per game. He was targeted 10 times and he had four catches for 82 yards. He was also a key special teams player who played over 450 special teams snaps over the last three seasons.

Kansas should have been the Big 12 winner this year. I think the coaching shake-up is as big as the portal numbers this year. Frustrating to see two teams in the Alamo Bowl who Kansas beat, and others they should have beaten playing in bowl games like UNLV and Illi.

These are all good moves and there are solid portal players out there. Gates Keyes back I saw. Find solid coachable talent like SMU
SMU...they got D J Warner in the portal. SMU the school that just joined the ACC this year and to get in said they did not need the ACC TV money for nine years. Basically giving away $30 million a year. Then when a reporter asked the AD how that money is going to put them behind the other schools he laughed and said they have hundreds of millions of dollars behind this football program.
SMU in a whole different galaxy.
