almost nobody cares what others are doing behind their closed bedroom door. or who they are doing it with.
There's an entire political party (of our two-party system) for which what people do with their bodies in private
very very very much is an apparent public concern.
The live and let live, sort of libertarian fraction of the republican party used to be very appealing to my sensibilities. It doesn't really exist anymore.

No. The party exists now to pursue and entrench minority rule.

my religion is between me and Jesus. nobody else gets a say.
If that's true, good for you - as long as you are happy and there are no negative consequences for others.
If you attend church services, what about a/the "clergy" person/s? Are they involved in your religion and do they get a say?
Do you give money to your/a/the church? If so, is the IRS involved in any way?

Agreed and that part of the Republican Party is long gone.

I'm with this.
That fraction of people don't have any appealing "home" anymore.

it's crazy how the Bible message of communal equality is used to justify a hierarchy of bigotry.
for every verse about condemning homosexuality, there's like 2000 verses about condemning evil rich people, but don't get Qusdahl started about that.

The best part of the Bible is when it talks about your god given right to own an assault rifle.

I think gay people would be offended that every time a super religious person spouts hateful nonsense, that a bunch of straight white males say "dude must be gay".
Maybe dude is just a hateful religious nut job? That seems most likely.

a "C"hurch and a political party. Compare and contrast. Both need followers and money. Both tell you they are there to help you. Both use herd mentality. Both use scare tactics of historic doom and gloom and the end of the world as we know it.
I don't think I can contrast.
