That's 55,000 dead despite zero efforts to mitigate outside of the flu vaccine that sorta kinda protects some people if they happen to nail the vaccine perfectly.

We're at 60,000 now despite massive mitigation efforts. What would that number be if we strolled along without closing anything at all? 200,000? More? Less? I am glad we didn't have to find out. So can we drop the whole "but what about the flu" shtick?

As for suicides, I would love to mitigate those numbers more but that would require more money be spent on social programs that you'll likely find to be redundant wastes of money so....
So, screw all of the other people because . . . Trump? Got it.
My point, again, is that you are elevating one cause of death over another. More people than normal will end up dying of suicide and drug overdoses due to the economic and social ramifications of the lockdowns. Those are still deaths. They are still tragic, yet you seem willing to accept those as the price of having fewer deaths attributable to COVID-19. I am just asking that we look at the whole picture and map out a measured response that acknowledges that drastic measures may prevent deaths from one cause but end up causing more deaths from another.
Sorry, but the spread of a virus doesn't wait for whatever length of time it would take an inept administration devoid of leadership to "map it out".

So a fishing buddy in Denver has been bugging to get on the water, and I (reluctantly) agreed to meet up, albeit with social distancing precautions.

He calls and says, hey I just rolled into town, but first I have to go by your grocery store to get stuff for lunch.

Seriously bro?

I mean, all pandemic concerns aside, a fishing buddy who doesn’t plan lunch until lunchtime is normally called a fishing buddy who isn’t eating til dinner.

Even more amateurism on the water today than in the NCAA thread.

The suicide thing that I hear repeatedly from right-wing media is actually not a proven thing. This scenario is fundamentally different from any mass unemployment we have had in modern times. Using data from past recessions is faulty.

You just had to let everyone know that I am really a woman and my name is Kelly Ruiz, didn't you?

And you're the one dumb enough to admit it, drawing attention to something no one would have otherwise noticed.

You've said it enough that one would have to be blind or illiterate not to know. Thanks for making sure, though.

Surprise!

My mom and dad just road tripped from Georgia to Michigan.

My brother and I both implored them to stay put, but you really can’t underestimate the stubbornness my parents exhibit. If anything, us imploring them not to fueled them to do it out of spite.

They didn’t even tell us they were leaving. We just got a group text last night “just got back to Michigan!” As if they aren’t traveling from one hot spot to another, during a goddamn pandemic.

I said fuck it and replied, “mom and dad now get yer pitchforks and head on up to Lansing!”

As long as they stay away from Wayne county they should be fine.

I welcome your folks to the Great Lakes State. It should be a pretty nice weekend weather wise.

Oh, excuse me? For real, bro? You’re really trying to limit personal liberties out of some abundance of caution?

Joke’s on you, cuz my dad’s favorite golf course is in Wayne county!

That’s what important now, right bro?

so thus far Beaver refused to wear a mask, framing it as within his "rights" not to, and that he wasn't "gonna let fear dictate (his) life."

but then he went down to Boulder for the day, and tried to go into a grocery store, and got bitched out and shamed for not wearing a mask LOL

I just don't understand thinking like that.

If you've noticed, a lot of the guys that are melting down over restaurants and salons being closed for a month and having to wear a mask are the same guys that will convince you they are the toughest around and will outlive you in the end times. Pansies.

Among other issues, those same guys have also expressed concerns that “they’re” gonna be taking our guns, restricting free speech, and administering a free-for-all of late term abortions.

I'm going to preface this by saying everyone should be wearing a facemask in public. It was a big mistake that this wasn't being recommended from the very beginning.

But, those of us wearing facemasks need to get off our high horses and stop the non-mask shaming.

The majority of people I see wearing facemasks wear them improperly. And almost everyone, if you watch them for a while touches their facemasks. So, even the people wearing them aren't wearing them properly.

Also, these only lessen the likelihood of virus spread, they're not a cure or anything close to it.

A small incremental reduction in the spread of the virus means a lot, when looking population wide, whether they guy in front of you at the ATM has a mask on is really statistically nearly meaningless for you.

Also, confronting someone for not wearing a mask, probably negates the benefit to the person wearing the mask. Stopping, prolonging exposure and talking to someone are all going to increase transmission likelihood. So, as dumb as beaverfever is for not wearing one, the people shaming him in public are also increasing risk.

The warnings about masks giving a false sense of protection were very much correct. I mean, hell, gutter wanted to run from a cop for not wearing a mask...as though had he been wearing a mask, Gutter would be free of risk.

I also have been surprised that there haven't been more security guards and wannabe GI Joes taking matters into their hands and going after non-facemask wearers.

Just treat everyone like they're not wearing a facemask, when you're out, and continue to wear your own.
I only came to kick some ass...

Rock the fucking house and kick some ass.
