I laugh at it too. But often, the dots do connect.

Except for when Jeff Long was too focused on fake flight plans and not truly trying to find a coach because he already had one in the bag.

FLIGHT TRACKING SEASON BOYS! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT EXCEPT FOR STRAIGHT CHAOS!
Stewart is closer (like 10 miles away) and probably bigger.

Take this with a grain of salt because it's practice video but I've seen a lottttt more clips of Daniels throwing some ropes compared to Kendrick or anyone else. Not even deep throws. Just the 15 yard bullet passes that he overthrew a ton last year because footwork was shit, now he seems to be hitting those.

I would think Daniels has the top spot as of now and I imagine Bean will be heavily considered for the starting role too.

For the love of Gawd, please let the next coach be able to know how to put an O-Line together, via coaching, assistant coaching, recruiting, etc. Same with the D-line. Focus on both lines of scrimmage, special teams, and go from there.

It has been the #1 issue on the field over the last decade.

How it got there, though, is just a conglomeration of bad things.

It really baffles the mind how detailed oriented most college coaches are. How much time they spend on game plans that past coaching regimes have failed at the really simple stuff. At the college level those 'simple' things can be the difference between winning a couple of games or in the case of the low bar for KU football getting beat by 20 instead of 40.

I've always felt like coaches coming here have focused on the wrong things. I hope the next HC comes in and says we are going to focus on the details - alignment, eliminating stupid penalties and putting an emphasis on special teams. Your offense will come with time and so will your defense but when you can be good at just the simple things all the other things tend to fall in place much quicker.

As far as QB1 goes...I had heard that BryBry said the staff had Kendrick as the lead. If that is true that whole staff needs to be fired. Granted, we don't see any practice or preparation and by all accounts Kendrick is a phenomenal teammate but he simply isn't a D1 QB.

Which is why I would be ok with either Leipold or Monken. I think KU has focused too much on energy and overall look of the program. I think Leipold and Monken focuse tremendously on the small details. The energy and overall perception of the program will come once the details improve.

Agreed. I believe that both of those candidates, at least on paper bring something that no other HC since Mangino has brought. Gill, was the player friendly coach who wouldn't be the 'hard ass' that Mangino was. Then you had Weis, who was the 'name' HC and an 'offensive' genius. Bowen, was the life long KU guy. Then you had Beaty, who was another 'player friendly' coach who could recruit. Followed by Miles, who was the 'big name' and 'splash' hire.

I don't need flashy. I need attention to detail, tough minded and physical football. I'm liking the idea more and more of Monken and his military background. 'You may beat me but it won't be because I was unprepared' type of mentality.

Too often the teams have let up and focused on personal goals the last 12 years. Need the raw discipline and fight Mangino brought at his best. With better in-game awareness. I want Monken myself for that reason.

Again, I'm still Monken over Leipold, but the margin is narrow.

I just think Monken "fits" KU a bit more. No real reason why, just from what I've watched on those 2 coaches, I think Monken just seems like a guy KU would embrace. I think he would connect with all kids.

Leipold has some wizardry about him that not many can explain, but he's also just an odd guy who may not be able to connect as well with kids from Dallas, Houston, Louisiana and others.

There is credibility to a link of discipline/order and people who work for the military academies.

That matches the rumored timeline.

If those guys are taking the interviews, then we will have a new coach by the spring game.

That keeps Jones on staff for at least 2021. Then we hold our breath next December regarding announced attrition.

At first I thought it was Leipold’s job if he wanted it and I was pumped for that. Now I believe it is Monken’s to lose and I’m even more excited.
You get Monken in this program and you retain Jones, Eargle, Chavis and possibly Drake you may not lose much or any of your roster. At the same time roster attrition is going to happen when a coaching change takes place.

Surely, any coach would want to come in with their own guys, right?

I'd love for those guys to stay, especially Jones, but why would a coach ditch some of his own dudes that may have been at his side for several years to keep a few leftovers from the previous unsuccessful staff?

In all honesty, you probably want to keep 2-3. Jones has to be one. The other 1 or 2 is up for debate. But it'll probably be Chevis and Drake. Those seem to be the high energy, young guys that this program needs. Relates to the players well and recruit well. Then Monken/Leipold can come in with their choice of the remaining like 7 guys and they'll blend well.

After that, everyone else can hit the curb.
