Meh, we were still up after that banked 3.

It came down to them executing and us not.

I dunno how I feel about some of you Brucies acting like we got better cuz we won the play hard chart.

It's a season long deal.
There's value in games like this.
You're not going 18-0 in the B12.

bruce's play hard chart applies even when they are 5-11 in conference play and just got shellacked by 20 at home.

We lost by 3 v a top 20 team on the road.

The annoyance is that I told my wife we should watch. But on short rest and a hostile crowd fueling some lame calls, I expected we would be frustrated, adrenalin addled and sleep deprived watching them lose late. Seen the Big XII wrestling tournament before.

We lost a game we should have won. The difference was just a complete failure to execute in the closing minute of each half. If there is anything to learn it's that you have to focus for every minute of the game against a tough opponent, not just the first 19 minutes of each half, or you will lose. Pretty shitty feeling to play as well as they did and still lose.

Same. It's February. Championship teams should be rounding into form right now. THAT IS NOT HOW YOU DO IT!

Texas outscored us 12-0 the final minute of both halves.

Way too much attention is on that last play. There's a hundred other things that led to being in that position.
Jalen had a couple really bad mistakes that resulted in run-killing turnovers.
Bill putting Pettiford out there for the end of the half.
A couple ridiculous three's by Texas near the end of both halves.
Horribly one-sided officiating, worse than normal even on the road.
The ball slipping out of Ochai's hands the play before it slipped out of Harris's hands.

I think that in part this is because the fanbase just seems to want to blame everything on Harris and Dave, so this overreaction fits with preconceived notions.

Harris outplayed the best point guard in the league when you look at the game as a whole.

I am in the camp now that we have to live and die with Harris. He was really damn good against Baylor... Generally was OKAY last night... If anything, the Harris situation is not HIS fault. It's Self's fault. Self has to put Harris in better positions to be successful. Which leads me to that last play again. WHY does the ball ALWAYS have to start in his hands in those situations??? Seems to me like a strong, physical guy like Jalen Wilson who is a pretty good ball-handler could initiate the play there and perhaps just clear out and get to the rim for a shot or foul.

This kind of stuff is on SELF. Not our players...

The majority of our roster is fine. PG is our problem.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.
I think our outside shooting is a significantly bigger problem than our point guard. We needed some improvement there from Braun and Wilson. They got worse. The Atlantic article talked about it. Teams just need to faceguard Ochai. They can let everyone else shoot - not just Harris.

Not that I think our offense is a problem at all. We shot 58% at Texas. How do you look at that and say that our point guard is the problem.

I think point guard is our weakest link but he's still an asset.
He's just not dangerous enough to care about - but he facilitates very well.

NewtonHawk11 wrote: Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:50 am You can't convince me otherwise that the Kansas Jayhawks did not get better last night. They showed toughness, how to overcome your AA being completely taken out of the game and still should have won if not for complete meltdowns to end each half.

This game made them better for March. Maybe not a better seed or losing a grip on the Big 12 title, but they got better for what ultimately matters to many people.
Yep. This is me. Wish we would have executed better at the end of the game, but we have shown many times this season that we can execute at the end of games and win. That's what makes last night not as worrisome for me.

Sorry man, you can't just not talk about execution at the end of games. You have to talk about the last play, just like you can talk about how well Harris played for most of the rest of the game.

This feels so similar to arguing with other Vikings fans that are really high on Kirk Cousins. You have to consider the whole package not just the middle 90% of the games. Just like no one should ignore that DaJuan delivered on a similar drive to the hoop against Iowa State. IMO, Texas had his limitations scouted better. He had nowhere to go.
