I'm going with Shirley on this one.

Tacos, then burritos, then enchiladas.

Tacos get the nod cuz I feel like there's so much more variety available. For one thing, soft or crispy! And tend to taste the freshest, depending.

TDub's right about enchiladas can be soggy and the sauce isn't often that good. I think it's cuz a lot of Tex Mex joints have big catering size pans full of enchiladas made with some Sysco canned sauce that they just shovel onto a combo platter next to some rice and beans and globs of sour cream. I bet 99's sauce is good tho.

Burritos are somewhere in between the two, with the advantage being it can be an entire meal encased in one big large tortilla.

Then...there's breakfast burritos!

Sharky's has the best. Eggs, home fries, lots of shredded cheese, and pork green chili, all wrapped up and made to order. I recommend calling ahead, but even walk-ins tend to be out the door within just a minute or two.

Rocky Mountain roastery has veggie ones, potato or black bean. They do the trick, but are otherwise just ok...pre-made and thrown from a refrigerator into a microwave.

That one joint in Granby has good ones...Java Lava cafe? They're pre-made sitting in this big heat bin by the register, and tasty, but like $18 apiece. I got sticker shock and haven't been back but at least remember they were good.

what can you do with variety on a taco that you can't do with a burrito?

want a crispier burrito? roll it around in a hot oiled cast iron pan for a few minutes.

crispy tacos are a pretty much only an American thing anyway right? or am I making that up

Mostly, there are tacos dorado that are stuffed and deep fried to crispy. Good stuff.

No, corn tortilla stuffed with meat(usually), closed up fried and then cracked open and stuffed. Definitely looks like a taco.

I'd eat it, I much prefer flour tortillas though.

There's nothing like a fresh corn tortilla coming off the comal.

And what about tamales? Bicklemeyer's has em by the dozen on Saturday morning.

I forgot what I originally said in this thread.
I think it's enchiladas > tacos > burritos for me.
I like a 2 enchilada ( 1 chicken, 1 cheese ), 1 gringo beef taco combo when I'm in tex-mex mood.

But I do love a good street taco too.

Burritos tend to be just more of the same thing so I don't get to mix my flavors.
You typically just order one burrito -- but with enchiladas and tacos, they'll come in 2's and 3's.

They're all great but that's my ranking.

I still haven't figures out what flavor combos you can get with a taco that you can't get with a burrito.

theyre essentially the same thing. ones smaller portions and open, ones generally larger portions and wrapped....same thing basically.

Enchiladas are the outlier and they're basically just Burritos drenched in a poor tasting (my opinion) sauce so that everything gets soggy and flavors get drenched out.

a good grilled chicken or steak quesadilla might beat all of the above.

but, again, basically the same thing just a different treatment on the wrapping.

The shape/size of the tortilla might be the least important aspect of the entire deal.

Crunchy corn is the best, but is the trickiest to get good, especially at home.

I find a short time on a well-greased really hot flat top works best.
