There were no deaths, so "just" injuries.

Turns out, head injuries = "headaches", so no biggie: (This, from a little over an hour ago.)

This, from the guy who declined to honor Americans killed in France during WWI because it was raining, who called Generals and combat veterans "losers", "dopes and babies", and who dodged the draft when he had a chance to serve, allegedly because of a bone spur on his foot.

Lt. General Mark Hertling: "Traumatic brain injury is the agent orange of this generation."

VFW Expects Apology From POTUS. ‘TBI is a serious injury and one that cannot be taken lightly’

January 24, 2020

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – "In light of today's announcement from the defense department that 34 U.S. service members suffered traumatic brain injuries as a result of Iran's retaliatory strike and President Trump's remarks which minimized these troops’ injuries, the Veterans of Foreign Wars cannot stand idle on this matter.

TBI is a serious injury and one that cannot be taken lightly. TBI is known to cause depression, memory loss, severe headaches, dizziness and fatigue — all injuries that come with both short- and long-term effects.

The VFW expects an apology from the president to our service men and women for his misguided remarks. And, we ask that he and the White House join with us in our efforts to educate Americans of the dangers TBI has on these heroes as they protect our great nation in these trying times. Our warriors require our full support more than ever in this challenging environment." — William “Doc” Schmitz, VFW National Commander

Heres the thing. IF they'd said this immediately there wouldve been more pressure to respond in kind and escalate the situation even further.

Well i didnt say i would prefer a lie. It was just a thought about what wouldve happened if it had been relessed while tempers were still high.

Im not sure Trump is forward thinking enough to hold back information strategically.

I think pretty much every administration is not 100% forthcoming in the military decisons and outcomes. But we already know that.

true, but this one has brought the additional scrutiny upon itself, and deservedly so

when you don’t have a track record of honesty, which i hope you can admit is the case with this administration/president, it’s natural for your decisions and actions to get scrutinized more heavily

So we're in agreement that the administration accidentally made a smart move by intentionally lying.

Like anyone in his position would, Trump wanted to cast himself in the best possible light in the aftermath of an attack on Americans by another country. So, he minimized the damage. But in this case, Trump had additional motivation to do so, because he had provoked the attack. So, after a scathing news cycle Trump did what has always worked for him, he made up an alternative reality, claimed to know something he didn't, and lied. Then, when his ruse fell apart, instead of being contrite and saying something to the effect of, "Traumatic brain injuries don't always manifest quickly but nonetheless we're going to make sure that every one of our service people get the best care possible yada, yada...", again, he did what has always worked for him, and he created yet another alternative reality by minimizing the potentially severe effects of TBI by conflating it with "headaches", and said, "No, I don't consider them very serious injuries relative to other injuries that I've seen,". And now, the Veterans of Foreign Wars is expecting an apology.

All of that, to absolutely no one's surprise. No one's.

What is a "surprise" though, is not that Trump serially deceived us in order to make himself look good, it's that otherwise decent people like TDub and DC ignore the obvious, and rush to his defense.

Where have you guys seen the specific injuries of the soldiers reported?

Seems like Trump downplayed it to turn the narrative in his favor...now seems like some are maybe making it seem worse than it is to turn the narrative into their favor.

Can't say for sure without knowing the specific injuries and severity of each soldier....which to my knowledge they haven't released. Weird how that works.
