I know it’s mind blowing to a lot of you but it’s not to a large portion of America.
That's all true.

But it's also true that this was a fairly selfish (and perhaps foolish) way for him to speak his mind.

He knew that the 4-5 newsworthy things he said would be the focus, and not the balance of the speech. He knew that he, a kicker who is probably MUCH closer than he thinks to being a cap casualty after this season, would be causing a distraction. He knew that his second-most-famous teammate is dating one of the most influential women in the world (who does not align with his politics).

Sure.
I don’t agree he should get his ass kicked nor do I fully agree he is doing it for attention.

It's interesting to me. He didn't get much flack for his speech at Georgia Tech last season that had some religious overtones.
I don't think he should get his ass kicked for the Benedictine speech, nor for sharing his religious beliefs.
He's not forcing them/it on anyone.
As far as if he is "doing it for attention", I don't believe he wanted any attention other than from his audiences when he spoke at GT and Benedictine but now, he has to be "doing it for attention". Right? I say that being, now that he has made a name for himself as a devout Catholic and knows he has the attention of A LOT of people, if he truly is a man of God, he probably feels he should be sharing and spreading the gospel. Can't do that unless you are seeking and know you have attention.

You made my point much better than I did on my earlier post.

He has crazy fringe opinions. It doesn't matter if the guy putting you on the train believes he is right or not. Or smiles when he does it. He is an entitled man who is working to limit the human rights of others. And kicks footballs. Good luck with kicking footballs in American Carnage II, The Vengeance.

Getting one's ass kicked for being an arrogant prick may or may not change the arrogant prick. But absent that, maybe there will be an afterschool special moment when he apologizes and admits he was really raging at himself in public. Doubt it. Because jersey sales are brisk on the far right.

I think they are crazy.
You think they are crazy.
But I don't think they are fringe. And maybe, what, 35-40% of people in this country don't think they are crazy.

PDub, you are rational. It is the duty of the rational to argue against the casual bigotry of the angry margins.

I don't know exactly what ass-kicking means; I think it's fair for him to get called out for what he chose to say, particularly in a speech that, by its nature, was designed for public consideration. I don't think it's fair for, like, Overland Park moms to find his lifted F-250 (just assuming here) and slash his unnecessarily knobby offroad tires (again, just assuming here).

I don't find any gray area about whether he was seeking attention. It was a public speech. Why else do people give public speeches, if not for attention? Getting attention is sorta the whole point!

I took getting his ass kicked to mean being physically assaulted ( when Sparko said it ).
Different levels of attention I think -- certainly he's trying to get attention -- but there are public figures who have tried to get attention for great causes who weren't doing it for their PERSONAL gain/attention but the movement/cause they stood for.

I would suggest Butker open his bible (is it new, and did it cost $59.99 and include a copy of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the handwritten lyrics to the chorus of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA"?), and turn to Matthew 6:1.

That verse is exactly what we are having a discussion over - whether the attention is for himself or for his cause. He would tell you that he is speaking God's word and the glory should go to Him ( and seems like his MO as he gives God all the credit for kicking those field goals ).

Metaphorical ass kicking. Like a locker room talk. Butker is simply listening to the wrong voices. We have all had friends who intervene before it gets too chronic sometimes. He is a poor representation of tolerance. Christ didn't upend tables all the time or exclude people. He was too "nice" I guess

Not yelling at you at all, but jennifer lawrence ok dot gif to the self-serving athletespeak.

I do not doubt that Butker is genuinely motivated by his beliefs. I do not at all question that, or (of course) his freedom to express how his beliefs influence the way he lives his life, or even his freedom to express how he thinks others should live their lives.

But, freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences, and genuineness is not a get-out-of-dipshit-jail-free card. He was a dipshit for (knowingly-publicly) saying what he said, genuine or not, and it's fair for him to do a bit in dipshit jail for it.

Straight to dipshit jail.

The Chiefs are filling it lately. Sigh. Arrogance comes with winning.

I listen to this podcast most weeks - it's consistently great.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/r ... 1583858282

But, Chadiha's wet blanket act is tiresome.

In the most recent episode, he says quite dismissively something like (paraphrasing), "Yeah, the Chiefs are not winning both the Ravens and Bengals games."

I get the contrarian, anti-homer schtick. But come on. We're talking about as good of a team as we've seen in American sports history winning two home games in which they'll be favored.

This isn't fucking Apollo 13 here, guys. Starting 2-0 would be wholly unsurprising.

The odds of winning consecutive games where we will likely be favored by 2.5 to 3 points are lower than 50% but not that much lower.

Of note, it is not impossible that the Bengals walk into Arrowhead without Tee Higgins.

It depends. Will we see regular season Chiefs or Postseason Chiefs?

Right. I think it's something like 35-40% win both, 35-40% go 1-1, 20-30% go 0-2. Which makes Chadiha's comment ridiculous.
