The two teams that played a few minutes essentially get a bye then.

Regarding the neutral AFC game - still unfair to the Chiefs far more than it is unfair to the Bills if this weekend plays out as expected.
Owners vote today. I hope the owners put themselves in KCs shoes before the vote.

Chiefs I think are most favorable position. Entering Monday night, Bills were the 1 seed. And controlled their own destiny, now they don’t.
Chiefs will basically be hosting all playoffs long as long as Buffalo doesn’t make it there too.

This is incorrect.
Entering Monday night, the Chiefs were the 1 seed.
And still are:

The Chiefs couldn’t ask for much better. Still a good chance they are hosting an AFCGC as long as they win tomorrow.

Mistyped what I wanted to say. Controlled their destiny entering Monday night. Now they don’t.

Buffalo and Cincy ( by their coaches ) decided to end the game, with absolutely good reason to do so, but the NFL wanted it played that night, so both teams still controlled their destiny.

I do find the general movement of "you are heartless if you debate the NFL altering it's current rules because it means you don't care about Hamlin" just so ugh.

So you're saying that the outcome here is wrong (which I agree with), but it's wrong because...Buffalo and Cincinnati had their chance to play the game and chose not to? I can't go that far (and, in addition to being heartless, it's silly: the NFL absolutely COULD HAVE resumed the game after Week 18, and it chose not to).
There were going to be winners and losers for how the NFL handled this. My opinion is that, whether it's because a guy Lazarus'd on the field or because a water main broke, you should get the short end of the stick if you didn't complete your schedule.
More generally, I
hate the NFL making up rules on the fly here. I think you need to apply the rules as written as best as you can, and apply precedent or analogous rules otherwise. I'm very surprised there wasn't a protocol for this situation developed during Covid. But I think the right result would have been to apply the standings rules as they are written (and, you can infer from the tie rules, how the standings are supposed to reflect games without a win or loss).

Here's also the thing. The Chiefs got helped tremendously, because even if they lose and Buffalo wins this weekend, the Chiefs will not have to go to Buffalo for AFC Champ Game.
So to recap, the Chiefs are 9 point favorites in a game that if they win, they get the 1 seed and the bye.
If they lose, and Buffalo win, the Chiefs will play the 7 seed and then host probably Cincy and then play Buffalo on a neutral field if Buffalo wins their playoff game.
The Chiefs probably got the top end of the deal and it's not close.

Leveled, unbiased take. Nice.

If you're going to do jokey,
ad hoc rulemaking, this result was probably the best one.
