Looks like the Trump Organization was paying Ivanka as a consultant on some projects while she was acting as an employee of Trump Organization, hiding income from the IRS.

Can't wait to see the whole crooked family go to jail for tax evasion.

a lawyer for the Trump Organization, said that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate” and requested the documents on which they were based. After The Times declined to provide the records, in order to protect its sources
Exactly. They COULD clear the whole thing up by releasing the “accurate” facts.

Doh!!

He’s getting backed into a corner, and it’s clear that serious criminal culpability is a very real possibility. And he’s running out of time to have the big levers to pull.

I’m not a tax lawyer (or a criminal lawyer of any kind), but I’m not sure I follow the risk for her here, so long as she wasn’t a member (a partner) in the company that paid her salary and consulting fee. And as long as she reported both.

I suppose there’s some accessory or complicity hook. But the main issue here would be on the company/owner side.

Maybe the whole arresting former presidents thing won’t be such a bad precedent if it can clearly be established that much of this shit went down before he was potus?

The problem is that this assumes good faith. Unless the MAGA fever really breaks, and the GOP reforms itself (or good-faith conservatives form a new Conservative party), you can bet your ass that as soon as they’re given the opportunity, the Republicans will weaponize the DOJ and other levers against Biden, Harris et al.

Yeeeah.

Sigh.

The GOP will no doubt be ready to throw the Biden family in prison over like, forgetting to pay the extra quarter to get the fancy mustard on his burger in like 1996.

Just 5 weeks from tomorrow, folks. It's finally getting down to a number that feels close.

Batten down the hatches. There's going to be some weird shit. It should surprise no one if all of the sudden there's an investigation into the NYT.

They want to, but they can't get out of their own way sometimes. The counter-report on Hunter Biden was a flop, and the counter-investigation into the origins of the Mueller probe was just abandoned.

What's happening is that GOP Senators - who are vastly savvier and more cunning than the president - see now that November is shaping up to be a catastrophic defeat. They're starting to line up to abandon ship.

I think it just depends on the reason that she took 1099 and w2 income at the same time, as an individual. Usually it's one or the other. I'm guessing she could do it, if the work was indeed both contract and employee payments. However, it's not normal. Hopefully discovery happens.

If it wasn't for all the other screwy lines, I don't think this line item is as scrutinized. But, I mean a guy that wrote off an average $200 a day in hair care, and I pay more taxes a week than he does in a year, it's going to be looked at with a crooked eye.

Senators, congressmen, governors and judges have all been hauled to jail. The reason we haven't had a president hauled to jail is because, generally, you are vetted by the American people and the political party before getting far in the process, and usually presidents have shame.

GOP wanted a criminal, shameless jerk in office, and got what they wanted. You don't get to be above the law for being prez. I don't know if Trump and his family go to jail. But I do want justice, no matter what the results are.

Spiro Agnew came the closest to jail. He agreed to resign in order to avoid jail. Trump will (hopefully) lose that chip.

I'm conflicted on whether I'd say yes to a resignation in exchange for comprehensive (state and federal) pardons.

It sounds like NY AG is already working on prosecution, and NY state does not take kindly to tax cheats. I don't know of anything, even back pay with interest (if NY State taxes were also rigged) would get Trump/Trump Org off the hook here.
