My boy Delaney didn't make the pack for the upcoming debates.
I want a candidate that wants to reduce the deficit, increase-but-not-double the minimum wage, treat illegals like humans while still considering illegal immigration a crime, roll back the Trump tax cuts, and not demonize nor kiss the ass of businesses.
Delaney's all of that. Hickenlooper is fine. Biden seemed to abandon that in the first debate.
So... Is there anyone out there for a moderate to vote for? Someone to root for in the debates?
good stuff here. I wanted to discuss the "moderate wing" comment but thought this would be a better post to quote.
I admit that by most people's standards I'm probably a little left of moderate about a lot of things. But I'm curious about where a moderate voter stands on other issues.
I'm all for fiscal responsibility. I'm all for higher wages - it doesn't have to be some knee jerk sudden doubling, but at least something that keeps up with other general economic metrics. Regarding immigration, I like the way you put it.
I'm all for a more sensible tax policy...well, I'm probably more left about this (make the rich pay their fair share! Heck, make them pay a bigger share! they can afford it much more so than low-wage working classes. My exponential curve tax code is probably too progressive to be moderate, right?)
and I like the way you put "not demonize nor kiss the ass of business." But I suppose I think business does enough to demonize itself. Overall I think I'm of the "let business be business" mindset, which is to say, let free markets be free, and not so heavily subsidized by tax handouts. (but someone please call me out if there's some other angle to understand this)
Where does a moderate stand on civil rights issues? Or abortion issues? Or environmental issues? Or election law issues?
Latest observation by Rick Wilson on the gaggle of Democratic candidates:
God forbid you should nominate someone who’s isn’t a raging fucking lunatic or electoral poison in the 15 states that actually matter.

Couldn't disagree more. Folks like Ryan, Delaney, and Bennet the last two nights boldly stood up for the moderate wing of the party that is too often the silent majority. They changed the conversation and called the populists out as needed. I want to see them in as long as possible.
Agree 100%.
This plays an important role in the process even for the people who won't be the eventual nominee or be in the smaller pack of finalists.

"Moderate" is a label invented by the lazy and cowardly Media Industrial Complex to describe cowardly and lazy politicians. There is nothing "moderate" about not doing anything when the minimum has stayed the same for decades and whinging loudly when a correction is proposed.
Glad to see Tulsi flattened Kamala. Harris comes off as unlikeable anyway.
It was great to see Kamala get exposed. She is done. She is one of the worst options on the left, so I'm glad she's not going to be considered.

Kamala should just unbutton the second and third buttons. She’s got my vote.

That's BS by a lazy and cowardly far left that can't actually defend their positions. Like when Delaney gave a list of reforms, which is the opposite of nothing, and Warren gave this line that you're repeating. It's just yelling, then putting fingers in their ears and yelling "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU". Because if they actually discussed the issues they'd lose.
All of the issues that differentiate the Warrens and Harris' and Castros from the Delaneys and Bennets poll far better on the side of the latter.

I think our differences here are very small to the point of insignificance.
I like the questions you have at the end - but at the moment am too mentally lazy to think about them

After watching the insanity of Democrats going after each other instead of Trump and after Obama instead of Trump, Leawood's observations make as much sense as any.

This is insane. This type of thinking is the only reason trump has a chance at a second term.

Beto began his campaign trying to take the high road and being positive. I can't put my finger anything specific that might have caused it, but Beto seems to have pivoted. He's never been my guy, but good for him!
Last year, Marchant only won reelection by a three percentage point margin.

I like Beto a lot--had the courage to run in the reddest of states against an incumbent who'd been the last Republican standing against Trump. Of the top candidates, somehow, I don't see Biden, Warren or Sanders having that kind of guts--they all ran originally in very blue states.
Harris and Butiggeg get a pass as they have some other personal obstacles. I don't know that O'Rourke would be the best national candidate, but he has a particular voice on issues and is willing to speak out. I also have a lot of respect for him from the first debate, when he elected to just stand there and not divide Texas Democrats. Sanders, Warren, Biden, Harris could take a lesson from him.

Beto is a joke. 1 of my least favorite of all the Dems.

Why I like Beto.
I don't know...like members of the press, what the f***?
Not saying he's the best candidate, but sometimes that Texas bluntness is what the day calls for.
