ousdahl wrote: Fri Jul 02, 2021 9:00 am Yeah that set list is hilarious.

cuz when you perform a song you gotta remember to do the hook and the verse.
I think that's because he was featured on those songs and the other artists weren't there....so he wasn't going to rap their parts is my guess. Maybe gutter has a better explanation, but based on which songs are on that list that is the most logical explanation.

And he drinks (or used to drink) too much lean so there's that.

Trad - I have mixed feelings about Phish. Obviously the band works very well for the Phisheads so my attitude is god bless them. To each their own.

TDub - If the question is about opinions, then by all means you and Plano are 100% in the right to express your opinion/s - and I actually respect and appreciate them. I just have a difficult time with the word overrated. I don't know why I would allow someone else to dictate what I should and shouldn't enjoy and how I should feel. That's my own personal issue.

Plano - Pretty bizarre. Right? The guy needs to remind himself when to take a break and talk? Most of what he says is nonsense anyways.
The other thing I couldn't comprehend is how/why he wanted to smoke weed throughout the performance. I would figure he could get some killer stuff - so why the need to take 20, 30, 40, 50+ hits?

Ous - You should hook up with Lil Wayne and write some hooks and verses!

Fair and I wasnt trying to tell you how to feel. I was just answering the question with my opinion, nothing more.

Re: Phish, I can get why folks don’t like them, if folks don’t like jam bands.

Truth is, I don’t like (most) jam bands either! Really just Phish and the Dead.

The thing about Phish is, they’re ridiculously talented - both individually, and as a band. They’re on another level musically. Much of their songwriting can be really creative too. (Think some kinda dead/zappa/talking heads/David Bowie love child)

And just always fun. (I think BofH once said something like, “Phish can take a bad song and make it fun”). And in some hypothetical battle of the guitar gods, I think Trey could go toe to toe against damn near anyone.

The problem with Phish is, they inspired an awful lot of shitty jam bands. So many of them are just tying to rip off Phish. Where Phish can take one of their songs, very tastefully and cleverly segue it into a legit jazzy improv jam that segues to another one of their songs while incorporating phrases from another song yet, most other jam bands start and end with “another 20 minute guitar solo woo!”

(Not that Phish isn’t guilty of pushing the jams a little too long at times too).

From 1971, Mad Man Across the Water. I lost interest in Elton John after about 1980 or so. Can't listen to most of it. That said, the dude is a genius. This is probably my favorite recording from him,

It's a drag race between Phish and Sonic Youth.

I would not call myself a Phish fan, but the six or seven shows I've been to have all been amazing. Granted, they were all at The Gorge, so that helps.

I saw this YouTube prompt for a vid for something like “all the best new guitarists are coming from the Sahara desert”

I didn’t watch it (yet), but it must be true, considering I shape my entire world view from YouTube vids…

Phish concerts are amazing. Can't imagine them sober though. High you never want the jamming to stop, if you're sober it's just too long.

Speaking of concerts you need to be high at, just went to the box office to buy tickets for King Crimson and Frank Zappa together. That should be good.
