Oh?

Who are things getting better for then?
In relation to police officers being held accountable for committing crimes.
Like I said, sounds about White.

1 very public conviction (Chauvin) and a few other guilty plea deals/convictions is not systemic chage. It will take years and years for "things to get better" when it comes to the reasons the BLM protests were occuring.
You've gone full bat shit crazy.

"Things getting better" does not equal systemic change.

ousdahl wrote: Tue Jan 04, 2022 2:25 pm Actually, I think the Chauvin and other convictions are still outliers.

As a whole, Merican policing is as brutal as ever. And as unaccountable as ever. (What happened to the cop who blasted a 14yo girl in a dressing room?)

If anything, the BLM shit had the unintended effect of just the opposite of defunding the police. Many departments got even bigger budgets out of it yet.
You're being very disingenuous here. If you want to have a conversation about Valentina Orellana Peralta's death than at least have the decency to refer to her by name instead of a "14yo who got blasted".

Her death is tragic and I definitely think some accountability is in order, but the circumstances surrounding her death are different than a lot of the POC being shot by white police officers.

You're flailing.

We were talking about the BLM protests and why they were occurring. The reason they were occuring is police brutality and racial inequalities in both policing and our country in general.

You said they were no longer occuring because of a few convictions/plea deals....mainly Chauvin...but the BLM protests/riots began occuring long before the George Floyd incident. Long before.

I don't know what I think is the true cause for the reason they have stopped. I think a lot of it had to do with Trump being in office. Some people (on both sides) had a political motivation in keeping those protests and/or riots going.

Forgive me for not referring to the victim by name.

What’s different? It was a collateral damage incident? Some sort of negligence, rather than intentional or accidental? The cop can’t claim he mistook the quinceañera dress for a gun?

What’s the same? Unarmed victim/s, disproportionally affecting persons of color, lack of deescalation attempts, lack of nonlethal force, lack of first aid or other care after the fact, lack of accountability for the cop who blasted, lack of any awareness that maybe it’s inappropriate to unload an assault rifle in a busy department store, same lack of compassion by the psych types, same illy trying to paint the BLM protests as riots, same old.

I’m just not sure anything’s changed.

Liar.

There are pages of me differentiating protests and riots. I have and will continue to defend the true BLM protestors who are there with good intentions to influence change. I have done so here, and in real life. You can make up history to fit your cool story just like you do with the made up roommate beaverfever, but it doesn't make any of it true.

You ever been to a BLM protest? I have.

Have any POC family members or close friends you care about? I do.

Personally know any activists who have made it their life's work to influence change in our schools so that racial equity can be achieved? I do.

All reasons why I wouldn't lump the protestors in with the rioters.

It’s not semantics, you have a habit of putting words in other people mouths. You’ve done it twice to me and once to twocoach today.

And it doesn't change the point.

The protests haven't just died down. They have almost stopped completely. And the very small ones still occuring get absolutely no media attention. Why is that?

It's certainly not just because of the Chauvin conviction and a few guilty plea deals like you said...and your other reason which was less POC being killed appears to not be factual.

Bro, if I made up the Beav, trust me - I would def pick some sorta character with some better wingman skills. It’s a PITA to have to go hang with a buncha chicks in relationships. All they do is whine about their boyfriends!

I didn’t attend BLM protests cuz at the time I was concerned about covid spread. I got in plenty of pro-BLM arguments on the social medias tho!

Yes, I have plenty of POC friends and fam. In fact, the majority of the women I’ve dated are and have been Latina. I got a type lol.

And yes I personally know activists. Assuming you count?

But damn illy, for someone who doesn’t lump the protests in with riots, you sure do a lot of phrasing it as “protests/riots.”

Unfortunately the protests/riots go hand in hand in a lot of cases.

The protestors and rioters don't.

Just be aware, never mentioning protests without adding riots in there with them, seems to take away from the legitimacy of the protests, and of the BLM campaign as a whole, whether you consciously intend to or not.

Love the casual racial undertones by 2 whits guys. Shockingly typical for a lot of your type. The kind who get caught with old racist tweets or get drunk and say the NWord for funsies and laughs. Always in a joke though. It's okay for jokes to be racist or casual use of the nword for laughs as long as they are about making fun of Republicans.

It's quite apparent you both grew up in far less diverse areas than I did.
