Baseball
Re: Baseball
I’d like sports to not be mixed with politics ( which will absolutely make several posters here race to type a snarky response because it doesn’t match with their opinion ) but if this gets an All Star game in KC, it’s a win.
Re: Baseball
i can appreciate your sentiment, but sports have been politicized for generations
i mean...
and Ted Williams: He was constantly worried about the fact that people would find out that he was Mexican-American, but when he had his Hall of Fame speech in 1966, he called out Major League Baseball for the fact that these black players, none of them had been inducted into the Hall of Fame at that point in time.
edit: i hope that wasn’t too snarky

Re: Baseball
Oh, I know it's not a new thing.
I just don't enjoy it.
( i.e. if I go to see a movie in the theater, I wouldn't be a fan if in the middle of the movie, there was a statement about what's happening in Georgia - while it is important, the message ideally is in another medium )

get that sonofabitch off the field!
Re: Baseball
Rangers relaying signs I think.
Re: Baseball
I am in favor of what MLB did. Here's why: Georgia has a storied history of intimidating blacks, lynching blacks (see Governor then Senator Richard Russell) in an effort to suppress the black vote. The latest legislation is continuation of that effort. Why is it a crime to provide WATER to someone standing in line to vote?
Georgia, and other states that are enacting these laws, should be corporately punished. I would like Delta Airlines to move their offices to Detroit (which has the best Delta terminal in the U.S.) and offer $100,000 to their Atlanta employees in moving expenses. If I am Coca Cola, I would move my HQ to Philadelphia.
Like Missouri, these states' legislatures are run by rural hayseeds that fear black people and the "white way of life." Anecdotally, I spent a week in Poplar Bluff after Trump was elected when he enacted his tariffs that shut down a nail manufacturing plant that employed over 500 folks (in a town of 20,000). The ripple effect that had on the town between grocery stores, hardware stores, restaurants, and other establishments was remarkable to me. But, those folks lapped it up like Mother's milk. The local DNR guy (out of 75 in a state the size of Missouri) would stop off at a Casey's for coffee and say, "Tomorrow I am going to patrol south Butler County." That was code that you could poach deer in the north part of the county. People need meat, and that is how they are getting it in that part of the state.
I say: "Give the Georgia legislature what it wants and live with the economic effect." Fuck them.

^^^^^ Sports are business.
Re: Baseball
Screw Georgia’s apartheid republicans. Faced with having to create popular policies or lose elections, they chose to cheat more based purely on their gerrymandered cheating opportunity.

Re: Baseball
Honestly, even in the context of the last 4.5 years, the GA law is so appalling to the idea of America that I’m not sure it doesn’t permeate everything.
Re: Baseball
I mean, GA isn’t even as egregious as what Arizona is/was trying to push through (can’t remember if it stalled or not)
Re: Baseball
Georgia’s ability to nullify an election board and install corrupt replacements is tough to beat.
Re: Baseball
Well, that’s what Zona was. The legislature could send whatever electors they wanted to. So for example, they could’ve just sent pro Trump electors after the 2020 election. I think it gave them the right to overturn state elections too, so they could either refuse to certify senators as well.

I am wondering if Glenn Close is Michael A. Taylor’s old girlfriend.
