Re: Totally random thread
I have zero doubt YOU would feel as such.
On an unrelated note.....
Yesterday I asked two co-workers if they were involved in an automobile accident, and they were not under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, and they didn't have any legal issues, what would cause them to "run" from the scene? I asked that because there was a "hit and run" in front of our building yesterday.
Which brought us to police chases.
I have very mixed feelings about all this. A lot to take in.
https://isp.illinois.gov/StaticFiles/do ... %20DIR.pdf
What I have some issues with is that I have personally witnessed the police let people with guns, who pointed them at shoppers and store security personnel, who stole high priced merchandise from a store (Neiman Marcus), just drive off on their merry way.
Don't get me wrong, I would never feel it is/was ok if an innocent person got killed in a police chase because someone stole something but I sure as shit don't feel someone who points a gun in a threatening manner at someone else after stealing high priced items should get a free pass for doing it.

Sorry, I'm not woke (nor smart) enough to understand the meaning of your response.
Part of the reason why I posted what I did was because there was a car accident on Lake Shore Drive about 45 minutes ago. I looked out my window and saw there was some minor damage to both cars but it didn't appear to be much more than a fender bender - and both cars/drivers waited for the police to show up. More than once I have seen a significant accident where someone flees.

I'm all for it, but only if my donations to your campaign will assure me long-tern contracts to fill my private prison.

why would anyone respect laws when our president-in-waiting doesn’t
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I have always been fascinated by advertising, and the way the "experts" go about trying to appeal to and catch our attention. What are the societal and demographic vulnerabilities, the biases and preferences, the buttons they're trying to push and leverage as they attempt to motivate us to spend our money on what they're hawking.
I regularly receive mail from local real estate agents wanting me to hire them if I decide to sell my house. And although I only glance at them long enough to make an accurate attempt at the recycle bin, I think I can say without exception, they all feature large glossy pictures and descriptions of the fabulous, incomparable, $1.5 or $2.4 million dollar sale they recently had, how few days it was on the market, etc.
Which is why, when this passed thru my keep-or-recycle filter this morning, it got stuck:
"Your Home Could Be Next!"
After asking myself, Who the hell would hire a real estate agent based on their sale of a house like that?, and then I think I got it!
What I guess is the obvious pitch: "If I can sell a house like this, I sure as hell can sell a house like yours. So, Contact Me Today!
Yes? No?
I love it!

Yeah, but what if the seller was looking to get 200k for the house and the house ended up selling for $5?Shirley wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:37 am I have always been fascinated by advertising, and the way the "experts" go about trying to appeal to and catch our attention. Here is where I laugh. I get similar emails and I don't own a home.
I'm a single heterosexual male. I fully admit the emails I receive that have photos of attractive women who are real estate agents interest me more than the emails I receive that have photos of dudes who are real estate agents.
Gee, would I rather have a lousy incompetent attractive female agent try and sell my house than a super-star male agent? I like to think no but I'm even dumber than I look.

New bath towels, they suck. Mrs. 99 bought a bunch of new towels. They're big and fluffy and look really nice, but it's like drying yourself off with wax paper.

Re: Totally random thread
I want to take all my hard drives for the last > 20 years to have them destroyed, but the 5 or so that are in the Macs that I switched to ~ 2010 need to be removed from their laptop computers. The towers that the PC hard drives were in were easily accessible, so they're not a problem, and I never blew up the house or got shocked when I removed all of them.
However, after going on YouTube to see how to go about removing the drives from the Macs, there are all these warnings about grounding yourself in order to avoid static electricity from damaging the computer parts. The warnings inside the computer on the cover of the SSD of a fire if it's mishandled notwithstanding, nothing is mentioned about the static electricity discharge being a problem for the person removing the drive, only the components.
So, since I'm recycling/throwing away the rest of the computer after I remove the hard drive anyway, do I have to care about the static electricity being equalized before I remove the drive?
Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Totally random thread
None of the laptops I want to remove the drive from are working.
I removed one and I'm still alive, but when I opened the back on the next MacBook Pro, expecting it to be similar enough that I'd figure out how to remove the drive...long story short, you can't access the drive easily on this 2017 with a Touch Bar, because this one is soldered to the logic board along with the RAM and something else. If I knew what a logic board looked like I might try to remove it and have it destroyed along with the drive, but I'm not there, yet.
Hard to believe what a time sink this has turned into, not to mention having to order the right tiny tools, (I already have numerous small screw driver sets, but Ohhhhhhhhhh Nooooooooo, these screws are really special because of those woke Apple socialists out in Cupertino).
Time to see if I can find out what the logic board looks like and not let a few screws and some paper thin, overpriced metal stand between me and a cure!
