One reason why that three point shooting is so weak is the PG you defend with your life gets wide open looks every game and still shoots 31%.
Braun and Wilson can't hit open 3s either.
Braun and Wilson don't get the open looks that Harris does. Also, I can't really help you if you don't see the connection between teams walking away from Harris and other players not hitting shots. But please, stay on the Harris bandwagon -- I'm certainly he'll lead KU to multiple Final Fours before he graduates. He's a star.
Complaining about our PG after a game in which we shot 58% from the field is weird.

He shot 58% from the field? Didn't see that. Edit: I see you said the team, not Harris, as if Harris' 6 assists in 38 minutes were the defining reason for that quality shooting.

The two guys you mention above shot better from the field and scored more points, so actually I think it makes sense for me to do exactly that.

I forgot that scoring is the main role of a PG.

Point being that I don't know why there would be complaints about anything with our offense, including the point guard, when we just shot a really high percentage on the road against a top defense

Conversations around scoring and the PG happen when the PG shoots as much as our POY candidate and nearly as much as Braun. It also happens because it's '22, not '98, and point guards have to be efficient scorers in today's game.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.
I think our outside shooting is a significantly bigger problem than our point guard. We needed some improvement there from Braun and Wilson. They got worse. The Atlantic article talked about it. Teams just need to faceguard Ochai. They can let everyone else shoot - not just Harris.
Isn't Kansas ranked #63 in the nation in 3pt fg% at 36.1%?

List of ranked teams ahead of Kansas in 3pt fg%:
Purdue 41.1%
Michigan State 38.8%
Gonzaga 37.9%
Ohio State 37.1%
Illinois 36.7%
Duke 36.5%
Baylor 36.3%
Villanova and Kansas 36.1%

That's it. That's the list. So I don't exactly see Kansas' three point fg% as being a major problem in their season. What is a problem is free throws and turnovers:

Shoot better free throws (KU's 71% is 191st in the nation)
Cut down on turnovers (KU's 303 TOs is 226th in the nation)

ugh…those turnover numbers

some credit goes to the defenses we’ve faced, sure, but i’ve definitely seen too many wtf bonehead plays (like JW passing to a DH that wasn’t even looking, or DMac passing to nobody but the ref)

Are our turnovers per game bad, or turnovers per possession?

That was my thought. Fastest pace of the Self era--they're going to be higher on a per game basis, and we have to live with a higher rate with wanting to push the ball in transition.

Dave is also turning the ball over more this season, but that seems to have calmed down some ever since he's getting less touches on the block.

interesting…CB actually has the most TOs on the season, by a fairly large margin. he’s credited with 52, while DMac and Och are tied for second with 37 a piece

wouldn’t have guessed that

and ncaa has KU tied with baylor at 202 in the nation, for both total TOs (303) and TOs/game (13.2)

edit: teamrankings.com has KU at 173rd for TOs/possession, at 18.3%…up almost 2% from last year

I don't think that's current. 16.1 per 100 possessions per sports reference. We have had better, we have had worse.

Last year was very low for a Bill Self team (2nd lowest), and it did absolutely nothing for that offense, which was one of Self's worst ever at KU (statistically, by far the worst).

Possession: field goals attempted – offensive rebounds + turnovers + (0.4 x free throws attempted)

thanks

seems like a convoluted way to get at a “rate”

I think it's a close-enough way to get to how many possessions a team has played in total rather than using tally marks and watching every game.

From there, you get your total turnovers divided by total possessions a player has played.
