Houston looked totally beatable, but we are their opening home game (again, just awful scheduling).

Clayton Tune had a very bad ass play for the win. He's tough, but beating him in our only matchup against him would be sweet.

I watched the overtimes. UH was plain lucky. On their first 2-pt conversion, the replay official overruled the call on the field without clear evidence. On the last play, UTSA's QB just choked. A wide-open receiver was missed. And UH got away with interference on the play too. Should probably have been an "L"

Houston has Tune and then that WR named Dell in goes in the slot a ton. He's a baller. Stop those 2 guys and you have a good shot.

Almost 300 yards on the ground.
But we could do so because Tennessee Tech could not tackle worth a damn AND we knew they couldn't move the ball on us through the air ( good god, their QB was awful ).

This is a team that didn't have a returning QB and lost their opener last year by a similar score to Samford ( who ended up going 4-7 ).

I like @ WVU early because they shouldn't be good enough to just blow us out of the water and it should be a good barometer of the upcoming season.
Not throwing well is a theme with most of the conference (see KSU--they seem to have a dearth of pass-catching too). The quick-tempo no-huddle sideways passing game has to be scouted and stopped--TTU, Baylor and OU rely on it. Daniels in a run-centric offense was till the number rated QB Saturday.

Word there. Spy on Tune. You knew he would run late against UTSA, and they let him eat.

2-0 so far. A somewhat decent chance (still under 50% I'd say) to go 3-0. Cheapest ticket right now for the Duke game is just over $30. I think before the season, it was low $20s.

If this team gets through September 3-1, are there enough winnable games left on the schedule to potentially get to 6 this year? Iowa State and TCU at home, would there be any others? Definitely not saying that is going to happen but would a 3-1 start with a conference road win would at least have some thinking of a very very outside chance at a bowl game?

I think it's too early to know the ceiling for the team this year. Our offense is the real deal. I think we could very realistically win 6 games. We won't be favored in that many, but we can potentially win that many.

Houston an 10 point favorite.

Should be a lot of KU fans there. Good alumni base there and the last time KU played in Houston was against Rice and KU had quite a few fans there.

The offense is going to give them a chance. Defense has to do just enough. Like they did in the 2nd half Saturday.

I think 5-7 gets you bowl eligible now.

If someone wants us, we would take the invite.

KU is currently 1st in the nation in scoring (55.5 ppg), 3rd in the nation in yards per rushing attempt (7.5 ypc), 3rd in the nation in rushing TDs (10) and 11th in the nation in rushing yards per game (248.5).

I think there is a caveat to getting into a bowl game with a 5-7 record. Something like a shortage of 6-win teams plus you have to have a high enough graduation rate to be considered. At least that used to be the rule.

Gotcha. I see that there is an APR requirement, which we should meet, but not sure if the 6-6 teams have to be exhausted, although they likely will be, anyway.

I would think of the 5-7 teams, Kansas would be one of the more attractive options for a bowl committee and TV network.

Yes, they have to exhaust the pool of 6-6 teams before a 5-7 team can be considered.

"After all bowl-eligible teams are selected, the 5-7 teams – which will be considered alternates – will be deemed eligible in descending order from the highest multiyear Academic Progress Rate in the Football Bowl Subdivision for the most recent reporting year. Those teams will then select the bowl in which they will participate."

Thanks. But, according to wiki, that could also be ancient history. A world before COVID.

It likely hasn't come up a bunch. Let's just win 6.

Lots of people I think would watch because KANSAS is in a bowl game after the shit decade plus that just happened.

Just hope they follow up with some positive momentum this week.

I would think KU would outdraw most if not all G5 teams. As far as other P5 teams, it would depend on if its like Indiana in a typical season or like UNL/Iowa/Wiscy in a down season. The latter is going to get the nod, but they also may decline the invite.

Yeah, the next time that KU makes a bowl game, I'd think that they would have a ton of fans support and show up. Fingers crossed that it is something they have a shot at soon.
