You have no idea.
Annual campaigns with big brands can cost what Nigel is making, including media.
Because a few BWW Chad's looked up what Life Wallet was, that was worth 800k?

Again, out of your element.
You know what tells me this was worth it to LifeWallet or its owners? They agreed to pay it. It’s not that complicated. It’s really not.
Ah, there's the rub.
Just because they paid it, makes it worth it for them.
But your social media/endorsement angle is horseshit.

They aren't paying him to substantially increase ( for the money paid ) their product.
They are paying him because the CEO is a Miami alum and has plenty of money and now, maybe if Miami does well, his connections/relationships in the area will increase because they know he wants the program to win. It has nothing to do with the actual 'value' of Nigel Pack's endorsement.

So yes, whatever people pay justify the means. ( makes sense coming from you ) But that doesn't mean that it's going to ruin the sport for much of us.

Lol. Big “very many people are saying” vibes.

I don’t deny that this might chase YOU away. Again, personal choice. Yours to make.

cuz the other option is what - some new iteration of The Rules? Some sort of cap on compensation? Go back to trying to enforce prohibitive measures that the Supreme Court of all entities already said cannot be prohibited? Reject the whole lot of it and embrace the virtue and purity of grade school amateur sports instead?
It won't happen because the people in power are always about them dollar bills, but work with the NBA and G League to get the players who want to play for money to those organizations. Get the minimum age rule out of the NBA somehow, someway. If you take the top 50-100 players out of CBB, it will still be very watchable.

Make financials public/transparent. Allow the schools themselves to distribute the money to facilities and staff. Increase the stipend. Give kids a year of free school for every year they play. Maximize endorsement deals with schools and whatever organization is running the colleges. Write a clear list of rules and the punishments that would come with it for violations.

Fill collegiate sports with collegiate athletes - not pro basketball players just stopping by for a year of ball.

A lot of the suggestions are in here if you want to sort and find:

Kinda what i've been saying.
No need to insult me or imply I am racist because of it though.

Just seems unfair that a kid might get to profit from his talent while in college without coming from a rich family.

Also I’m very much of the stance it’s not going to settle down but will continue to move in the direction of multi year contracts and a disassociation from actual school courses and the university.

And now we are back at the local pub analogy.

Pdub, if I were you, I'd avoid watching any highlights from this year's natty run. I mean shit, remember that time Remy took a picture with a Toyota? Or that time Dave pimped the pizza at Johnny's Tavern? Boy did this season suck.

Nigel Pack just got paid 800k to go to Miami. That’s different than Dave on channel 6 at Piasanos promoting his new DMac and cheese.

yeah, it's different...one is a looser who went to K State and the other is a national fuckin' CHAMP!

what else is different tho? the amount in question?

so you're arguing for some limits on these endorsement deals, then?

is there some bright-line number you suggest?

I am against it being able to be a reason why someone comes to Kansas. Or a school in general.

And honestly, I’m arguing against it entirely because I think it’s just a legal ( within collegiate rules ) way to funnel money.

Tyreek Hill had a great set up in KC with Mahomes. He left for more money. Good for him. But that is professional sports.

I want college to be an amateur sport. Not a professional league for young players. Get more money out of it rather than in. A legitimate non profit situation.

There is an element that really bothers me--Miami in particular. It will be easy to fix games with the present strategy. We need to take the mob element out of this right now. Life Wallet reminds me of Lev and Igor's company. There will be some secret meetings that will lead to stuff that seems legitimate. Footlocker paying $3M for a guy who spectacularly failed in a key game a few months later. There needs to be an athletic blind trust of some kind to keep the money until the players leave the school.

did you prefer the previous transfer rules? back when a player had to sit a year.

and/or back before these attempts to "Make financials public/transparent?"

is it that you just didn't want to hear about it? if an amateur sport requires all the "professional" elements to be prohibited (read: kept under the table), is it really an amateur sport?

I’ll add again, I get why people are fine with this direction. More power to them.

It isn’t for me.
Pizza and honey.
Pub and reservation seating and 19 dollar cocktails.
National lands and oil drilling.

Another idea would be to put all of the tournament money in a fund for the athletes on each of the 64 teams. Because the NCAA is so pure.

I think punishments and distancing should have been earlier. They should have done something about the shoe companies. The NCAA blew it bc they were busy diving into gold coins.

I think athletes should have one free transfer without a year to sit. I don’t think money ( cash payments ) should have anything to do with it.

concerts they do?! your really reaching here..

most college kids concerts profits include a free red solo cup and no door fee....

Same opportunities as other students!! you're gonna love it.
I was on some patents based on my research done during grad school. They never got purchased, but if they had, I stood to make a whopping 5%. 40% went to the university, 30% went to the department, 15% to my advisor, and 5% each to the people who did the work.

Other students don't have it so great.

Not all majors and career paths are the same. A freshman acting student at KU can get paid $20M to do a Marvel movie and still act in a school play.
