Trump's reaction to his own virus now is of a piece with his public reactions to the bigger picture in March/April.

You left off the part about one having a vaccine and the other one EVERYONE on the PLANET is susceptible to.

It's true that Trump wanted the economy to remain open so that he could win reelection and keep the economy from collapsing. But it's also true that the left has done everything they can to try to collapse the economy (the media, the race riots, keeping businesses closed, etc.) just so that they can get theirs in. A war with Syria is part of the reason the media wants the left to win.

The economy has collapsed. And it will be much worse off than it would have been, had we acted like adults on this thing.

Trump protected the market. That's something entirely separate from the economy.

I can still go get all my money out of my bank if I want. I can still shop if I want at pretty close to the same prices as a year ago. I can still get a car loan or buy a house.

The economy has not collapsed. Stop it.

I wouldn't say the economy has collapsed, but when banks start losing money, it's a pretty bad economy. No margin to work with, have to set floors on lending rates and savings interest rates are among the lowest they've ever been.

Great time to invest with bad rates, but an awful time to save money or rely on 401k, especially when there is some pretty severe job loss as well.

You're believing the same BS sources with the same motives when you claim what you're claiming about the alleged downfall of society under Biden.

As do many other people. A relatively high unemployment rate is not the same as "the economy has collapsed". That's just overdramatized nonsense to scare voters.

When these kinds of recessions happen, layoffs often get worse as the results are felt. Sure, we have about 50 million out of a job, but there's going to be even more layoffs in 2021 that people are not even aware of right now. Anyone who thinks we are "in the clear" right now is really not paying attention.

I agree, but it's been in this same spot since the last crisis. We never had a real recovery from the last one. All our government did was print money and reinflate the stock market and assets (real estate). I also agree 100% that our current stock market is divorced from reality (aka, it's fake). But I'll add that while the stock market is being held up by air, it's also going to become a big problem for all these pensions that rely on 6-7% returns from their investments. That's just one reason of many that the gov is trying to keep things propped up. Of course it won't work in the long term, but it might last another few months or year.

The issue is that the economic fallout has (to this point, and obviously as a gross generalization) spared homeowners/homebuyers and people who have material investments in the market.

The economy has absolutely collapsed for hourly workers in the travel, hospitality and leisure industries. The effects of that have not yet manifested on a broader basis.
