Trump during his speech in Florida. “I’m about the best thing that has ever happened to Puerto Rico. You better vote for me Puerto Rico.”

He really doesn't have a fucking clue does he?

oh man.

So I worked in this small downtown office with a bunch of pugs. They would get so pumped up when anyone came in.

We’d have meetings with clients and one pug would be enthusiastically butt dragging laps around the table.

If I could say I kept a straight face, I woulda posted it in the professionalism thread.

If I had to guess, my guess would be Trump knows nothing about C.C. other than he "discovered" America - a long time ago.
Remember, this is the same guy who last night told Puerto Ricans who CAN'T vote for him - to vote for him. Why? Because he's a clueless fucking moron.

It's a mobius strip of stupid.

He didn't know Puerto Ricans are US citizens until being called out for his ignorance.

Once he (grudgingly) assimilated that information, he assumed Puerto Ricans can vote in the general.

Now that he will be called out on his ignorance on this point, he will de-assimilate that Puerto Ricans are citizens.

"people seldom do what they believe in. They do what's convenient, then repent"

actually I think fish's expression is more on point.

lots of double standards.

this is tangential and should be in the religion thread, but I was thinking the other day about how religious folks have this "us and them" mentality. It's tribalistic. They think they're on some existential winning team; and everybody else, good luck.

With "everybody else" being some godless seculars, who are too worldly and sinful to be on the "right side," and who view the religious experience as not worth the time cuz they're too consumed by temptation. This feature is built right into religion itself.

but, having personally been on both sides of the debate, I don't think the seculars dismiss the religiouses cuz they're too consumed by their sinful temptation. I think it's that the religiouseses come across as so damn hypocritical.

It's not like there's not temptation among religious circles. They just downplay it, hide it, as if they don't even though they do, then turn around and point fingers at everyone else anyway.

it's not that they're choosing temptation over purity, it's that they're dismissing religion on grounds of legitimacy.

the hypocrisy and double standards have always been a huge turn-off for me

that, and the fact that every religion was created by man, but believers somehow are convinced that theirs is the only real one

Dawkins said it best (paraphrasing)...with all the religions in the world, there are really only three scenarios: 1) one is true and all others are wrong, 2) they’re all true, or 3) non of them are true

I'm not sure I'm saying something that is much different (at the end of the day), but my biggest gripe is the use of religion as justification in and of itself for doing real-world things that are otherwise obviously bad/irrational/immoral/unethical/stupid.

It's like, I don't have to reasonably support my actions if I just say it's because it's my religion.

My personal belief is that there is something bigger/different/more powerful/whatever that humans are simply incapable of fully (or perhaps even mostly or even partially) understanding.
