Say what you want about him, but I doubt neither his ability to dig up dirt nor his willingness to sling it.

Just got charged with extortion. Wanted Nike to pay millions to him and his client.

So yeah.... Don't think anything will come out of this.

And also got charged with wire and bank fraud in California.

Just too funny.

Not that this is anything of the earth shattering variety...but..

Of interesting note here...(this is straight from the source document)

"Client-1" is a coach of an amateur athletic union men's basketball program based in California. For a numbers of years, the AAU program coached by Client-1 had a sponsorship agreement with Nike pursuant to which Nike paid the AAU program approximately $72,000 annually."

It goes on to say...

Client-1, an AAU coach, whose team has previously had a contractual relationship with Nike, but whose contract Nike had recently decided not to renew. According to Avenatti, Client-1 had evidence that one or more Nike employees had authorized and funded payments to the families of top hight school basketball players and/or their families and attempted to conceal those payments.

I have no idea whether what Avenatti did here is criminal. I am here, though, for the facts.

Out of curiosity.. Aren't you a lawyer of sorts..?

I would think this is criminal, but I do think the facts will come out at some point. Dan Wetzel with Yahoo has been all over this thing from day one, and I have a feeling he'll get the information regarding that.

Most sad panda face causing thought for me is that KU and KSU are only two ‘non-chalk’ teams out right now.
As bad as we got pounded by Villy last year, that missed shot by the Tripper in the last second was one of the best moments I've ever watched.

Sure sounds a lot like the Bagley case before they moved to AZ, but I doubt his dad would be threatening to expose evidence that would implicate him and his kid.

How it is characterized versus how it went down is the key. Lawyers do this every day for clients. Few have so high a profile enemy.
